yoshimura exhaust for CB750
« on: March 27, 2009, 04:46:55 AM »
Have searched the forums and cannot seem to find an answer.

I am going to look at a Yoshimura header that the seller "claims" is off a 1975 CB750. Does anyone know if there is a part number marked on the exhuast? I cannot take my bike to the seller as it is apart.
Thx
1976 CB 750F

No mate, it won't have any numbers stamped on it, I've got one hanging up in my garage and I had one on my Yoshimura Suzuki GS1000, and back then they didn't even come with the (now  easily identifiable) Yoshimura sticker. Check it very carefully for rust, Pops used very thin, lightweight mild steel exhaust tube, and so they rust out really easily. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

  Carpy and Yamiya sell the repop version, and maybe M3 Racing in Mnnesota. Fuhgedaboutit finding an original, unless you know an ex-racer that has pipes hanging in the rafters.

3 things to remember on 750 pipe search;

motor is inclined

K models have a flared end to fit spigot

pipes are splayed, that is the left and right pair are angled to each other, like a cb 350 or triumph pipes. (you can see it in Terrys pic)

754 brings good points about specifications.  (Thanks again, 754, for the replacement wiring harness)

The reason I recommend Chris is that he was a R&D engineer for Yoshimura (along with loads of MotoGP, Superbike, etc. race tech experience).  He designed Carpy's latest repro exhaust, based on the original.  He just made me mine for my K7 -- I'm getting a look at it today (just got ceramic coated).

Not sure if this photo is appropriate since you are looking at an original,
but this is the Yamiya product as indicated earlier in the tread.
