Age and disuse takes another part.
« on: June 12, 2006, 09:48:04 PM »
The adjustment bolt for my cam chain tensioner twisted off, flush -naturally -  with the housing despite many days of soaking, gentle coaxing.
Looks like the housing is held on with three bolts into the heads there, hope they come out ok.
Actually as I have not changed the adjustment I might just ride it instead, fix it next winter.
Drill out, ease out.
Is that about right?

I am going to stay active in all ways, and fend off age at every turn - I hate rusty knees and hips, wrists)!!

Hey dave what bike you have again?

Last time I needed one for a 750 honda still had them. I drove the seal outa the one on my bike thinking I'd buy another seal and chrome the housing....bad Idea they just sell the housing with the seal already installed.....

At any rate honda should have them.

If its the appocalype and you really screw up trying to fix it I prolly have one for a 750 laying round.

You should be able to take the three bolts out and remove the housing. The tensioner part will come out with it. Then just drill and easy out the broken off bolt.

Good luck

Thanks
My bike type is in the line where your "Misdirect, etc" phrase is; hard to spot.

I guess this is an "opportunity"... to learn about the innards and workings of the cable tensioner.
I don't thinking, yet, of buying a new one... I 'll try to fix this first.
