Windshield for my 72 CB500
« on: October 20, 2005, 09:41:33 AM »
Hey Everybody,

I'm looking for a windshield for my 1972 CB500 Four.  What modern windshields fit my bike?

I'm looking for something that is easily removed, I just want something for longer trips but also looks good.

I have straight bars on the bike instead of the stepped original bars.

Has anybody found a windshield for this type of bike.  I know there are many different designs out there, but I thought someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Claude

there was a windshield on my 400 when I got it.  its a GIVI one, and mounts to the handlebars

I think its this one:

airstar A620

its not a bad bit of kit.  and only two mounts on and off.... cant ask better than that.

I am keeping it for touring duty.  but dont have it on day to day.

Dont do it!  Theres no such thing as a good looking windshield on these bikes. ;)  If you must, get a frame mount one.  Notice how these bikes get tossed around by air wakes from semi trucks?  Think about how much worse that would be with a big piece of not-so-aerodynamic plastic strapped to your bars.  That would  be even more fatiguing on long trips Id think.  What do you think H D C?

I have no idea.... I had it on for one ride on the bike (from where I bought it to home).

I think its butt ugly, so took it off, but if I do end up doing a year end tour on the bike, had intended to put it back on.... it LOOKS as if it should be a decent bit of protection....

I recently sold my XJR 1300 which had a screen similar to the A200/240 in your link, putting aside the aesthetics for a second(I personally think it looks c**p) it did not really help at speeds over 60-70 mph. It might keep the odd bug off of your visor, but doesn't do much more than that! If you fit a larger one, the turbulence gets worse!

I have a National Cycle brand "Street Shield" that I use during the Winter.  I like the look of the bike without the shield better, but it's not too obtrusive and when it's 15 degrees outside and I'm riding to work, anything that keeps the wind off my chest is better than nothing.  It's 17" tall and 16" wide and has never caused any instability problems at speed.  A wider fork-mounted shield would probably make more of a difference.  This one is just tall enough to push the wind current over the top of my helmet rather than onto the face shield, so it makes for a nice smooth ride at highway speeds.

Hell yeah!  Thats hardcore!  I puss out around the end of November but now that I have a full-face and plan on buying some better cold weather gear I might go a bit longer.  But not 15 degrees!  She'd take an hour to warm up...If I could get it to start that cold.  Rock on Gordon.

I run an old circa `70s Shoei fairing for my 150 mile roundtrip commute and in the winter , haven`t had any instability problems either.
If it ain`t snowin,I`m ridin too!!
This morning was a brisk 40 F and the evening rush hour commute a balmy 52 F and during the whole ride today I only saw 3 other bikes out. 2 Beemers and a HD.
Bunch of d#*mn fair weather riders around here, sheesh  :-\
