another one of my 21'' ideas
« on: March 31, 2009, 07:53:02 PM »
My friend Dan and I are talking about taking this-

to something like this-

Only difference from the pics is, he wants red rims and red hubs with wide whites.
but I don't know...
the wheels are at 600 completed.
we got an old timer to do the hardtail for 250-300
and the misc hardware, fender, and other stuff will -most likely- nickel and dime it up to about 1200.
We're in the pricing and planning stage still, so it might go up some.
should be fun.
everything I say is pure speculation and
I have no idea what I'm talking about  ._.

I just don't see the appeal of a hard tail.

The good thing about a hard tail is, it gives your kidneys the "jostling" they need to loosen up all those pesky stones.

I understand the appeal of a hardtail, much better than I understand people having touring bikes and never seeing even an 800 mile day.. ::)

Better have real short legs to ride that!
My legs cramp, just looking at the riding position.

I don't know. Those wheels make the bike look light, agile and bicycle like.
I think quick and nimble. Not cruiser, hard tail, or boulevard yacht.

Just one mans opinion.

Cheers

tramp-
In reality It'll be the height that fits his leg length. but he still wants to sit inside the frame.

I photo shopped this as he explained what he wanted and emailed it to him, so he could see it on his phone, not just in his head.

on another note,
I sourced low cost labor (myself and friends) and parts for him already.
I just hope he doesn't take the bike to that harley shop in St Pete.
they saw him coming, and gave him a quote of $4000.
and he has the money to throw away.

funnyJimmy- like a bicycle, that was sorta the idea.  8)

I just got an email from Dan with this in it.
he changed the upper rails and sprung the seat, changed the oil tank/battery box into a cover, and did some red wheels and hubs.
looks like a good design, might need some hidden support around the back fender area.

It might just be me, but those skinny (light) wheels have a tendency of making the center look heavy by comparison.
It's difficult with a drysump engine, but you might try opening up the middle a bit more with a well shaped tank tucked tight under the seat and open space below.

I was thinking of a fender with an integrated oil tank too, but thats gonna cost $$ so we may go with a baby keg style.

OK here are my thoughts. I remember your first 21inch idea ;)
In this case, I would raise the seat a little, but not much. Some forward controls to stretch the legs a little.
The red rims and such do not go with the tank and such imo. BUT maybe add some white wall tires and that might help. See I think the red is too much, or too much of it. Maybe less red or maybe just red rims but not hubs?
Add some pull back bars so he is not leaned forward with that seat too much.

Another thought, maybe do the gas tank in red OR black or maybe black with the red pinstriping? Maybe the tank is what is sticking out cause of the color? See what you can do with your photoshop. As before, I liked the 21 inch idea and while some consider it a waste of a bike, it is not their bike. After all, it could be said a stock bike is a waste too! ;D

those are good suggestions.
I'll pass them along.

he doesn't want forward controls, but that might change after the seat drops.
I personally don't like the red wheel thing that much, but it's not my bike.

No offense to your creativity , it looks so nice the way it is now that it seems that it would be a tragedy to alter it. But that's just my opinion.

yeah it looks nice like that, but it looks just as good as the other cb750 bobbers you see going down the road with a 17 in the back and a 19 in the front.
