I would think that it would work so long as there is room to run the fuel line(s) so that the fuel is alway running down hill.  I'm going to put a different Honda tank on my 550 and the petcock is on the opposite side of the bike than the original tank.

thanks for the help but i also realized somthing else... All the electrics that are hidden under the stock tank! I dont think I can find a tank out there with enough room in the tunnel for a cb 650s electrical components to fit. My other option is moving those parts(which i wont do) or have the tank sit higher up.

How much room do you think you need?  Maybe someone has modified a similar tank on here.  They pound knee dents into these tanks all day long.  Maybe you can pound enough space in there for the tank to slip over the electronics.

DO NOT TAKE THIS AS ADVICE.....I HAVE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE.  I certain don't want you to ruin a perfectly good tank.  Ask around, or search.

You can find used honda tanks on e-bay for pretty cheap if modification is not possible.

i did think about punding out enough room to make the tank fit, but i would have to be able to physically feel and see the tank to know what i was dealing with. I also though about chopping a new tank to make room for the elctronics but I havent welded in a while and havent welded anything that thin.

If you're looking for a nice bobber tank, try searching for a "captain america" replica.

I'm using it, and theres plenty of room for it to fit over the backbone - however it comes short of covering the coils. This isn't a bad thing if you're trying to go for the bare bones look.

You may find yourself welding a new bung and tab to the end and a bracket to the front to mount it up. I guess you'll end up doing some fab for any non stock tank though.

thanks! yea, the coils are in the way. a capt america replica tank might be out of my price range though. I do want the bare bones rat rod look for my bike though.
