I accept the nomination!

The paint is not photoshopped, I sprayed it myself and wetsanded for 3 days :) The colour is BMW Alpinwhite if you want your bike in that colour any paintshop can mix it for you.

oh that photoshop remark was (i think) because the first image i posted was tweeked by me and the white looked fake. i switched images since.

it's been a while since i've seen that white for real; is it a bit of an off-white? i was serious about painting a bike that color one of these days. i have images of 1960's honda gp cars dancing in my head.

sorry for the thread/image infraction hef.

Thank GOD!  I wouldn't stand a chance.   :)

Thanks VWDan!
I'll have to scramble to get some updated pics.  A couple things that have changed is that I have a 4 into 1 exhaust now, and I have mirrors from a 1983 Honda Shadow (that actually look like they were made for this bike... I'm very pleased).

A quick description:
- I did this build on the cheap.  Rattle-can paint all the way.  No outsourcing.
- The skull and crossbones in the pic is on the gas tank, along with the "1972" decals.
- Painted the chrome fenders with Duplicolor - so far, so good.  I'm pretty pleased with it.
- Rubber undercoated the fenders.
- Airtech fiberglass seat utilizing the hinge and latch.  (If I could do over, I may have kept the original seat....)
- Upholstered the seat myself.
- Sparto tail light.
- Bullet turn signals.
- Headlight visor.
- Pod filters + rejet.
- New side covers (Meier brand... needed a lot of cutting and filing).
- Pedestrian slicer, home-made.

I have a spreadsheet of the build that includes all I put into the bike - the cost of each item, materials I bought and used, tools I bought for the project, cost of each of the preceding items, where they were bought, and notes about my general thoughts of each.

Original bike was $1000.
$975.84 in parts (not including the new 4-1 exhaust, I don't have that number with me right now).  Knowing what I know now, I could have reduced this cost a bit.
$149.73 in tools.
$165.42 in materials (such as paint, acetone, Naval Jelly, etc.)
$270.50 in legal fees (learner's permit, registration, insurance, skills test, speeding ticket (just kidding :)) ).

You can see a larger picture in my signature.

I framed this picture and it's hanging in my garage.  The text on the pic comes in handy occasionally - I use it as a quick reference to things like spark plugs, etc.  It's yours to print if you want to do the same.

Thanks again VWDan.

my opinion... i think it should be limited to once per year.
i don't think we have a rule for it though.

should a former winner be allowed?
should a former winner require a nomination, first, second, third, fourth, fifth?... i totally want to be the person to fifth someone.   ;D

I agree.  After that it should just be left up to the former winner/new nominee if they want to accept and be in the running again.  I do think they should at least be strongly encouraged to provide new pictures of their ride rather than recycling the same ones from their previous win.

I thought we had a rule that the same bike couldn't win BOTM twice, unless there were radical changes made to the bike.

I don't really like the idea of someone being able to win twice for the same bike, and it's not like we are lacking for good looking bikes to nominate.  I guess I just don't see the point of letting someone win twice unless the original bike that won is drastically different the second time around.

Just my opinion though.

Not to mention how bad it would make me feel to lose to someone that's already won it.   ;)

By the way, it's going to take me a little while to get some new pictures.  I don't have any of the bike with the mirrors and 4-1 exhaust on, and I have to borrow a digital camera.  Plus, the weather's been kind of bad where I'm at (here in the great state of Confusion :)).
