Another Front Brake Issue...
« on: April 02, 2009, 01:18:35 PM »
I can't figure out what the heck's up with my brakes!  My biggest question is: how hard should it be to retract the piston back into the caliper with your hands?  Example, I undid the caliper from the bike, removed pad, pumped the lever to get the piston moving, replaced the pad so that it stuck out about 3/4 to 1 in out of the caliper.  It took me placing the caliper in my palms and squeezing the piston back in with both handsto get it to go back down.  Is this way to much pressure, should it return to it's org. position easier than this?

I just went over my brakes again and found that I hadn't cleaned the big seal groove properly.  I used a pick set and scratched all the crud out then cleaned it all with brake cleaner.  I put the seal back in and I was able to move the piston in and out pretty freely for the first time.

Yeah, I don't think I cleaned it as well as I should of looking back.  Didn't think about grime pushing it out causing too tight of a seal ::)  Will dive into that Saturday morning...
