poor top end performance
« on: April 22, 2009, 10:01:07 PM »
I just bought my 82' cb650sc and it runs great. new air filter, chain, brakes, and oil. Only problem left is as follows. It runs great all the time until i get to fifth gear at around 60-55mph. The bike won't rev past 5000 RPM no matter how much i open the throttle. I ran it like this with WOT for about a mile and then suddenly the RPM's shot up to 7500ish and i was going 80 with more power to spare. I can't figure out whats wrong. Also this is my first bike and my first try at working on it. My guess is the floats in the carbs are sticking or maybe a fuel filter problem. I haven't pulled off the bowls yet because i want to make sure or at least have a little confidence before i go hacking away.

look here is a thought....

1st.
You allways have to stop the bike fix that first!
2nd.
you will need to turn the bike... fix those next (tires, forks, shocks, ect...)
3rd.
once that is fixed you will need to make sure the motor runs "OK"
4th.
charging issues fix those next...
5th....

RIDE!!!!

that is what do on my stuff and it worked great my bike came together pretty well if you have a plan and a mind set things seem to fall into place and you dont seem to panic or NOT know what to do... kinda like a diagnostic chart...

get your self a small white board to keep the project small and focused it has helped me...

take 1 project at a time and pretty sooon motorcycle's dont seem soo complicated...

our sohc's are pretty simple but a few too many projects and it might seem too complicated...
