i'm rebuilding my 76 550. it was sitting in the PO's garage and was well kept. i got it from my dad's neighbor and got all the details on what he did to it, not much.
i've gotten as far as taking off the cylinders and I'm not sure I want to go any further. my plan was to tear it completely down, clean it all up, and put it back together, but now I'm thinking i've gone far enough.
Here are my questions, I was thinking of dipping the pieces so I could strip off all the old oil and gunk, what would be good? Where is a good place to get a complete gasket set? Should I tear down the bottom end or leave it since it's been maintained. Newbie here, so the gearbox is a little intimidating.
oh, and the carbs were redone so that's the only thing that doesn't need cleaning.
