I figured that part of the webbing was over strengthened and could afford some holes.
If it broke and effed something up... Well, I wont do that again.
so far I've put 1000+ miles on them and they work perfectly.

also they're about 5oz lighter now.

forgot to post the gauges i did.
they're 80mm halos under uv resistant vinyl faces I made and had a guy print out at a sign shop.

I also changed out the top tree.

Love the holes.

Less weight=better power to weight ratio.

The engine works less, and acceleration just increases.

Also improves handling and braking!!

This has inspired me to do even more lightening.

Thanks much for sharing....I just now found your build thread.

Using a 550 mill, I need all the lightening I can get!

what I do is-
use a pencil to mark your holes and start off with a 1/32'' drill bit all over the part you're drilling. then just keep going bigger and bigger till you get to a size that looks cool.
add some random big ones where the holes look too far apart. or make your own pattern or whatever.

front end swap is moving right along.
I hope the springs aren't too soft... then again my bike is pretty light now compared to stock.

Ya know....I keep saying it...and I know it gets old....but power to weight ratio is king! Anything you can do to shed weight, BUT NOT SACRIFICE SAFETY....is necessary. These bikes have alot of "heft" that can be removed. You are right on track with all the lightening.....every time you remove weight...think of it as ADDING POWER...because that is what you are doing!

Look what I'm trying to do with a 550!! Gotta get inventive...and the stuff you are doing is inspirational.

In short, keep up the good work...and put that bike on a stricter diet!

when I'm done I want to see the difference in weight on the front end. the shock tubes themselves are half the weight of the originals.

last I weighed the bike it had something like 210lbs up front.

With the Gixxer front end...you'll have to come up with some shocks that can keep up in the rear, I bet.

I'm using cb900f shocks in the back, they seem to be quite adjustable (compression, rebound, preload) but I'll bet they could be upgraded.

they are old technology and soft, even on the last setting.

I was thinking mono, but I want to do some more "envisioning" first, I have these-

the one up front is a '90-something CBR600F2 swing arm, the one in the middle is the same as what's on the bike, an '80 DOHC CB750 swing arm.

I was thinking of doing something like this yam virago-

I think it has more of a mix of classic and modern than using a big section of box steel.

Well...you have my complete attention.

Kind different...mono shock rear with a drum brake.

Right now, I'm looking at going with some Kawasaki Lester style wheels, with dual discs up front and the matching Lester style wheel with a rear disc. The KZ750 came from the factory with the dual discs up front, both calipers trailing the shocks, and all three rotors drilled from the factory. 36mm tubes....can have my trees milled out 1mm to accept the entire front end on my trees...and the speedo srive is mechanical off the front wheel....just screw teh cable on! Worst case, you have Motion Pro fab up a cable with the honda end so I can use it!

If I am able to get the bike I found with all this on it, I'll buy it, scarap it out and sell off all I don't want.

Then fab on some late model rear sets that have the master cylinder right on the rear set.

Then....if you convince me, maybe a mono shock rear....I don't know.....I don't want the bike to look modern.

I understand what you mean, I think a boxed steel mono shock swing arm would be too modern and would clash too much with the rest of the bike, modern front end or not.

that's why I was thinking along the lines of that Virago setup with a bobbed hugger fender. It would also allow me to relocate the tubing that holds up the seat. (refer to the Virago picture)
