Check this out, I've been working on this bike all winter and never noticed what these were. I even had them off to clean em up and paint w/ the head pipes. My pipes are open except for these "caps" on the end. Sounds sweeeeet

My neighbor comes over the other day, old Harley dude, and says "hey man ya know what those are?" I can't believe I did'nt see it before. Any guesses ?

yeah, it really looks like the bottom of an oil filter. are there threads in the big hole in the middle?

I'd like for my 350F to be a little quieter. I like the sound of it at about 7000 RPMs but I'm pretty sure my neighbors don't. I thought about trying to thread the inside of the pipe and screw a round lawn mower muffler into it (another one of my hairbrained ideas). Do they screw on? Is it much quieter with them on?

Yea, thats it .....oil filter... I thought it was kinda of a cool idea. Works well..

These just slip on.. someone cut em just right there snug, with a screw top and bottom. Still pretty loud, but take these off and its just ridiculous, crazy loud!

are they clamped on some how, or press fit?

They just slip on w/ a screw top and bottom. A rivette would look better, but like being able to take em on and off easy.

Try running a filter on there to lower emissions

Have similar filter parts on my exhaust tips, too, from the PO. Any idea what kind of baffle (bought or home-made) I could install here? Have a nicely threaded hole available where the filter screwed on.

I hate my mac baffle on my 350f. Maybe Ill try that. Cheap enough. Im close to cutting my mac baffle in half losing the first wall of resistance. How many holes in the top of the filter?

i wonder if you could expand on that idea and take a pipe that could be made into a baffle that screws into the middle portion of that filter housing to get a little more restriction and quiet it down if you wanted and removed when you want it louder

Well at least it will take a while to rust - being coated with oil on the inside ...neat solution and environmentally friendly...good to see recycling works in many ways...but I would like to hear the exhaust sound installed v uninstalled...

On our old 750 hooker headers we used a steel V8 juice can. Back when you needed a church key to open them. You went around the edge and opened up a few holes on both ends. You could tune it a little by the size of the holes. When it burned out you looked for a vending machine with a new baffle in it. After a while I grew to like the juice too.

I'll try to get a sound clip up over the weekend. With and w/o the cap on the end. With the cap on (as-is) it's pretty loud. Set-of-the-neighbor's-car-alarm-loud.

Yes - this is exactly what I was thinking of. A 1/2" standard galvanized pipe screws right in there. Could I wrap the pipe in fiberglass or something to quiet it down? How long should the pipe be?

This is one of those "why didnt I think of that" hell I work in auto parts and own my own cycle shop, here is my version. What I did was remove the end cap and weld it to a short peice of exhaust pipe and cover the whole thing with a car tail pipe chrome end. This is the only good use I have found for Fram filters. They thought I was loosing it at O'reilly when I gammed a bag of discard filters !!
Thanks for the idea-- it dont sound bad either, although I will need to re-jet. Sweet !!!!!
