Stiff throttle (not really sure where to post this)
« on: April 06, 2009, 04:42:41 PM »
Hi guys I'm not really sure if I'm posting in the right forum here. I have a 76 CB750F SS, its a great bike but I've got a few problems with it, the major one being the throttle is super hard to open. I mean on long trips it can become a real problem. It doesn't stick or anything like that, its just hard to open it. It slams shut just fine. I am missing the return cable from the throttle to the little butterfly thing that opens the carbs, however there is still a spring attached to the mechanism which lets it close just fine. The throttle cable that opens has been replaced and is a new cable. Any ideas?

I hope my post makes sense to someone.

I would possibly suggest a weaker spring if your throttle cable is working properly...move the handlebars left & right while twisting the throttle - does it get better or still as hard..

Try lubricating the throttle arms that link all four carbs - they could be in need of some lubrication as well - try some penetrating oil  .

Should be in the SOHC4 Forum. If your throttle "slams" shut from wide open, then seems to me you have no resistance issues. If its the original return spring, can't think why it wouldn't be, you just need to man-up!   ;D

I use a throttle drag to give me relief on long trips, or a "twist assist" a rubber paddle attached to the twistgrip that your palm lies on. You can open the throttle with virtually no grip at all. Both good for long trips. Not used in close quarters.
