New Owner of a '72 CB500!!
« on: April 08, 2009, 09:07:36 AM »
Hey y'all!!

I just bought a '72 CB500 last night! I've currently got a BSA and a Ducati and was looking for something that I could use as a commuter bike and as something that I could use to take on some weekend trips. I'm also hoping to take it to the Florida Atlantic coast and ride it around this summer. I really want to ride it on the beach.
Anyway, she runs strong, the previous owner is a long-time bike guy and he's replaced the clutch and kept it in good running order during his time as owner. The carbs have been cleaned and it fires up on the first kick.
I know I need to replace the sprockets eventually and I'm sure there are other things that'll need to be done too. Where's a good place on-line to look for parts?

Welcome to the Wonderful World of SOHC/4 Hondas!  There is an FAQ section that has some tips on where to find parts, who is a good vendor to work with and who to avoid.  There's also a forum of owners by model.  If you're so inclined, please add your introduction to that forum too!  by the way, we LOVE pics!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Well, here's a really bad one. I'll have to take some more this weekend.

I'll definitely check out the FAQs and add an intro. Thanks!

Are there any places on-line to download an owners manual for the CB500? I've found one that was in Italian, but that was it.

Ha ha! Yep, I found the service manual but I wasn't sure if there were any copies of the original owner's manual floating around. Either way, no big deal. I've been able to find out a lot of the info I was looking for.

Hi
Over here in England I use David Silver Spares mainly for my bits. They say they ship overseas you could try the web site www.davidsilverspares.com but there must be similar people in the USA. Enjoy the bike I love mine just had new wheel rims and tyres fitted and bought new original exhaust system from David Silvers.
Cheers Phil.
