Topic: 2 cycle Vento moped

Wife has and rides a Vento moped, (unrestricted) but only when it runs right.  Which, sadly, is not often.  She's had it for nearly a year, and only managed  about 700 miles. 

The problem?  Hard starting, smoke blowing, dying 2 blocks from home and not running until the plug is cleaned.  I cleaned and opened the gap a tiny bit early last week, she said it started better and seemed to have more power.  I rode it to the grocery store on Saturday, ran perfect.  Today, Tuesday, it stranded her 2 blocks from home.  When I cleaned the plug (BR8 HSA) the other day, it had oil on it...does anyone know anything about 2 cycle mopeds?  Any ideas would be appreciated.  thanks

Maybe too much oil in the pre-mix?  Or does it have its own oil injection system?  I'm not at all familiar with that model or anything, but just throwing out something to think about.

It has an injection system, he says he's adjusted the pump.  can't really find much online...if anyone is a master googler and can help with links or contacts, I'd be greatrul.

Is it possible to disable the pump and just use pre-mix at whatever ratio you choose?

I assume so, but the thing is under warranty and wouldn't I run into carb jetting issues then?

Under warranty?  Well I guess that means you gotta bring it back to the dealer and get them to fix it right, otherwise you'll void the warranty.  Yes, you'd probably have to mess around with mixture if you went to premix. 

I wouldn't touch it at all.  The dealer should be earning his keep.

They are now suggesting I try a different oil...anyone have a favorite?  I asked them when we bought it, and they said it would not matter what oil I used, so long as it was for 2 cycle injection...and what I got is.  thanks

take it back and get your money back, that is just bad dealer service if they won't repair it. get the wife a rukus even if its used

go to the dealer and tell the you want it fixed, if they dont, go to your local business control authority complain to them and then go to one of the current affair shows, get it out  so the dealer suffers for his bad service, like you have

What oil did they recommend this time?  Does the manufacturer have any input?  What can you do to escalate this to the manufacturer instead of counting on your obviously incompetent dealer?

Ah, nice that you're all supporting what we've been thinking.  They didn't really reccommend an oil...it'd have been a perfect time to go to the showroom and say "this is the oil I suggest you use...."  which is what he should have done  nearly a year ago. 

Have not had a lot of success contacting the manufacture.  Will persist, as it is not starting right away, full of blue oil and fresh gas.

An update.  Forgot this was even here.  Early to mid August they found a carb, and installed it.  It has started and ran perfectly ever since. 

I went from calling the dealer to calling the manufacture folk, didn't have any luck with one guy, tried a different number (took first # and dialed a slightly different #, ever try that???)  Got some success there, got the email and phone of the supervisor, got everyone sufficiently annoyed into action.   Thanks again for your support.

More updating.  It starts and runs, and she said the other night..."the back wheel feels funny"

Back wheel is held on by a axle nut...remove that and you can remove tire/wheel.  Nut was loose/finger tight.  Any ideas what the torque spec would be?  If I could contact anyone at dealer or manufacturer, maybe I could find out. 

I put her on it, had her hold brake, and gave a good pull with the breaker bar to tighten it.

I have not been able to find a service manual for it...any ideas on where to look?  thanks
