Computer graphics help?
« on: October 22, 2005, 05:41:38 AM »
I'm going to put an aluminium tank on my 400, but can't yet decide on the shape. Might one of you geniuses be able to put a siliver BSA tank and a '70s/early '80s BMW tank (like an R90S style) on a 400 so I could see what it would look like?
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

Hey Unc
Couldn`t find a bigger pic of your bike so I used another member`s from the gallery. This is probably the look you`re going for , a 1984 BMW R100 tank.
The second one is a 60`s BSA tank.
I`ve often wondered what fitting problems would be involved with a GB500 tank, but you just never see them at the bike junkyards.

I've always thought that the standard tank is a very attractive item.  Have you thought of using two or more tanks as the basis of a cut and shut type extended 400 four item.  I think I've seen such an item on a very nice racer here in the UK and it did look very nice indeed.

"...cut and shut type extended 400 four item"
Sorry mate, but in the last 250 years or so, our language shifted from English to American. What does that mean?

"Cut and shut"
That would mean cutting two stock tanks to make 1 longer tank.
Looks pretty cool too ;)

While I agree that the BMW tank looks pretty neat, you'd need to ensure that the pic is actually to scale, those tanks are pretty big (6 US gallons from memory) and I suspect that it'd dwarf your 400/4  engine.

Also the mounting system is entirely different, so you'd need to do some major surgery to make it fit. Nice shape though, I had one on my 1979 R100RS, and with the optional solo race seat, it looked very nice indeed. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

This will be a custom, one-off tank, I've just been thinnking of the right shape. The new tank will be made with the same style mounting.. not hardware... system?  I thought about a racing style tank which is usually longer, but I want my old bones to be comfortable, too- and that means not too far of a reach. I'm going tosee if we can do that Beemer style but with a bit of a bend at the knee indent- a bit GB500ish.

Yodel dude- I think you're a freakin geneous. You're my new hero. This will be a few months away, but I''ll let you take it out for the first ride.
