Top of the bridge

i recently purchased some orig dunstall clipons to replace the clubmans on my 76 550F. they bolt to the top of the forks.

HANDLEBAR - TOP BRIDGE - STEM

wondering if anyone has figured out what to do with that empty space at the top of the forks where those old bars clamped on?

perhaps a flush peice that would replace that whole area? (#11 on schematic)

Could you just grind them down and re-paint or polish?  I think I saw someone on here that did that.  There is also a replacement top triple clamp somewhere I think.  I wish I had more info, but someone will chime in.

thanks guys.
is there any concern that i'd be putting that triple tree top on a 550 rather than a 750? are they the same measurements.
the grinding down idea i kinda like, perhaps someone out there has a scrap oem out there they'd like to get rid of...or a junkyard.
i believe there are other areas on my moto i'd like to spend $100  ;)

What about capping the holes with either a nice socket head screw (allen head), or using a stud (threaded on both ends) and capping that with an acorn nut?

Didn't like to file down too far so went so far and used rivets.

I think Gamma's rivets look the best.

 I dont think the Dunstall clip ons would work with the Cycle-X top tree as the top fork clamp bolt is moved and wont properly attach the clip on ( if they are the same as my 750's, pictured).

My original I ground down completely smooth and powder coated black but...that one didn't work with the F style gauge mounts so I used another and left the bar holders on, no biggie.

wow Gamma that does look really good!
Fishhead, i am pretty sure my dunstalls are the same.

i'm really kinda nervous about taking the whole front end apart, but i have a euro bucket coming from BCR. figured this is the best time to take care of the forks/handlebars/controls/etc. just trying to get my ducks in a row.

really appreciate all the suggestions

Looks really nice!

Where are your gauge mounts?  On my '77 750K, there are two mount points on the front that I'm going to use for a bracket I fabbed up for aftermarket gauges.

Removed them with a saw, prior to lots of sanding and then polishing.
I have bought one of those nice 2" electic tacho's from KOSO, which I intend to mount either on a home manufactured aluminium bracket on the 2 remaining lugs, or in the fairing.
Don't intend having a speedo except for a bicycle type for the MOT.  ;) ;D
