i just got a look at the pics.........you know, if you were so inclined to do a stroker motor, all you'd have to do is leave more material on the bottom of the block instead of using spacers. like theyre doing on vw engine cases now. that block is a freakin' work of art Mike
Great point about the stroker engine. ;)

Hey Mike, tell your machinist buddy he did a great job. I hope the demand for the cylinder blocks increases over time
so that the cost could drop, meaning even more sales.  ;D

Mike, I am ultimately going to build a nice street/strip/track motor. Would these cylinders be ok for street use? are they going to be using liners or nikasil lined? will they handle getting stuck in traffic?

Cam chain tensioner holes are cut and the JMR engraving finished. Just have to finish the bottom and head gasket surface (which just needs cutting down).

Mike, would this technology help in making sure that the prototype is programmed into the cnc machine before it mills the cylinder casting?
From what I understand printing a 3 d resin model using one of these printers is relatively inexpensive and will potentially save time and money. What do you think? Anybody used one of these?

am pretty deep into those things, use them often at work.

to really save work you can use the 3D as the base for an investment casting, there are a few problems though:

1. somebody has to model the damn thing in 3D. I'd say it would be a good 100 hours of work assuming you can get good dimensions for the basic stuff.

2. at a 0.2 mm resolution, lightly tapered fins will show the printing layers, I would try to use SLA that can give today an almost smooth finish

3. if its a core for investment casting then you need a "print" for each casting, doable but mighty expensive..... F1 territory....

4. the cheap machines are also pretty small,

Thanks and very interesting to hear about. The idea of 3d imaging using inkjet and polymer technology was fascinating to me when my wife told me about it at dinner this eve. In a way it's good to hear that the technical limitations have not all been solved yet, as presently I haven't missed too much. This was the first application I thought of for it, oh well!

there's a guy in italy who built amazing DOHC, 4-valve, water cooled heads for a big guzzi and he simply used good old wooden patterns..... not that hand pattern building is a quick job either

I feel sorry for you guys that have placed orders for these blocks...you have only seen pictures ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Tonight I saw them for real and met one of the guys that are making them, to sum them up in one word,....AWESOME 8) 8) 8) 8)

These guys actually make components for FI and Indi car teams, I think your orders are in good hands, I was allmost tempted myself. ;)

I was allmost tempted myself. ;)

But you're a tight arsed Pommy baastard who's still got the first pound you ever earned, ha ha! OOOPS, did I say that, or did I think that?

Hey Sammy, maaaate, can you ask Mike if he's pre-sold all of those blocks? I asked him in an earlier post, but he's apparently above talking to mere mortals like me any more, which I can understand, if I was Mike, I wouldn't talk to me either!

If Mike's got a spare block, I wouldn't mind one if it can be bored to 73mm for my 1060cc pistons? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)
