Question for the experts. I am thinking about ceramic coating my pistons, am i correct in saying that i would only be able to coat the crown of the piston as they are already matched to the bore?

Thanks guys...

Mick
yes - unless you coat them and then hone the bores afterwards?

Hey Eric, have you checked your tank clearance over those cam tower hold down bolt thingies? They're massive!  :o

Hi Terry or should that be G'day

Hmm, they sure do look a bit tall don't they. However, I took the view that's its a great deal easier to cut things down to size rather than trying to add a bit on. Fear not, the cover will be going under the milling machine before too long and those bolts will get the chop as well. I'm just waiting for Mike to send me a cam so that I can get the engine finished.

Cheers
Eric

No worries Eric, I just would have hated for you to install your tank for your first big ride and then realise that it's (possibly) not going to go on. I'm running a Megacycle 125/75 cam in my 836cc engine with one of Mike's heads and it's brilliant above 6000 RPM thru to redline, but has virtually no bottom end or mid-range punch, so I'll be installing a milder "torquier" cam next winter, as 6000 RPM is around the upper limits of my normal street riding. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

It kinda sucks that the bore is 71.5mm instead of 71mm. The cylinder would go good with mikes 71mm A.P.E.'S pistons he has for sale.
If only the pistons were flat top turbo pistons !   ;)  :D

OOPS !!  My mistake !!   Hey Mike, I saw another add of yours for a billet cylinder and 71mm pistons. Is this the same set ?  Also you
said the pistons are flat tops.  What compression ratio are they ?

I am doing well Sam.  I hope the same is true for you.  Haven't posted much - but have been lurking on the forum.  Now that my Hot Rod is finished I am on to other non-motorcycle related projects.

When you said block I thought ya meant the bottom end not barrels think this guy could machine the bottom end cases without the tranny to build a Kind of inline indian four style cafe racer ....not that I could afford it....but a cool project...kind of along these lines...D
