eh gents, heres my new projects 78 supersport, 74 cb750

eh gents, well i'll probably be spending some time here educating myself on the hondas. I'm not a noob to bikes, been modding old cheap beaters into cafe racers and bobbers for a couple years now, but more of a cosmetic guy then motorhead, i do the basics, but dont get into rebuilding and all that. but these will be the first of the hondas that i've gotten around to.

just came back from driving 2 hours to go get a 200 dollar 78 supersport in pretty good condition (lacking side covers ofcourse... they always are...). figured this might make a better project then my 74 cb750 barn find I got a few months ago for a hundred bucks. The 74 is nice, unmolested and basically untouched in years. but got some work ahead of me to bring that one back to life, at least the motor freely turns.    The 78 was running up until last year, 26k on it, previous owner went to repair clutch and never got it right putting it back in, so it's sat.

Figured the 78 would make an easier project then the 74, but since you guys know alot more then I do about these, which one would be a better decision to have at the end as far as nastalgia and over all value are concerned once cafe'd out. Undecided yet which one to cafe out and keep for myself. Input and opinions are helpful.

Greetings fellow F'er. Congrats on a $200 nice bike. Those bars are about all that is allowed on a nice F. Replica side covers can be had at www.LPMReplicaParts.com but I'm not sure if those guys have both covers for the 77/78 or just the 75/76. One side is identical but the other is not. Chop up the K!
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Great deals and good looking projects. Personally Id ride the 78 with those dual disks up front and the single on the back - looks very good. The 74 would be a better cafe project...any pics of your previous builds? Like the one in your avatar?

And if you decide to sell the 78 let me know  ;)....Rochester, NY isnt too far from Boston, MA

cheers
Andy

sorry for delay gents, figured this would of auto sent me notification when replied. I was born in 74, so I guess the 74 has a nastalgia factor ya know, though i do ride pretty hard, so it may be my achilis heel ya know. unsure which one i'll keep, maybe both, but got enough projects already.

Na, the mufflers on the 74 are shot, rest of the bike except seat is in pretty good shape. sucks too cause they get a decent penny for em on ebay to have to replace them, wanted to try to stay somewhat original on this one even though im going cafe. So i already know the side covers with the emblems are gona hurt my pocket.

Havnt done anythign with the supersport yet, in the process of remodeling new place before the move. got to try to make the time to do the carbs though.

Thanks again for the warm welcome gents, one more question though, i dont know the production numbers or popularity of models, i always asumed the super sport was a little rare, which would ofset the year difference with the 74,  if these were both cleaned up good (not professional restored, just looking good) adn both running which would be a more valuable keep?  appreciate it and i'm sure you'll be seeing more of me in the months to come. though some of the purest may not appreciate my chops and style. I get it on all the sites...

I already looked to see if there was a portfolio area of my profile to load an ablum or anything, some sites do, some sites dont, didnt see one here.  I'm no pro builder at all, just some cometics and updating to bring with the times. I'll put it like this, ive never spent more then 600 dollars on any build including purchase price. that includes paint, ebay accesories like different tanks, bars, sidemounts, seats, etc.  Heres a couple without clogging the board.

The first black one is a 78 xs1100 road monster, my current ride, just got a new white wall rear in, still got to do the polished lip on rear rim red, and put red cherry bomb exhaust on to complete the bobber look i wanted. the blue on is a 78 gs750 i cafe'd, not the seat i'm going to go with for the next one, i'll probably use an SS fiberglas one, I wanted to put cafe bars and fork boots on the blue one yet, but the new buyer wanted it as is. the last black one was a hundred dollar xs400 i picked up so my roomate could go riding with me, was pretty gay stock, so it was my first chop 2 years ago, not bad for a total of 220 bucks spent on it lol, 100 dollar bike, 120 dollar parts, includes custom nastalgic hand painted whitewall, yep, just like the old days, 25 dollar solo seat, and my unique 7 dolalr suicide shifter lol.  hey.. come on, it was a free bike to a friend, i wasnt gona spend money on it...   :) That was my first chop that got me into this hobby, which actually is turning out pretty beneficial financially. That was 12 bikes ago now.  Alot of people ask what paint i used on the blue one, thats a single stage urathane enamal, called FUL THANE, (60 a quart, enough for a couple bikes) i'm a hobbyest with a cheap compressor and cheap gun, and it came out like glass, i highly recomend to anyone, i've tried the ebay cheapos, not impressed at all.
