Oil Leak from Cam Chain Tensioner Screw?
« on: April 10, 2009, 04:58:48 PM »
Hello wise gurus of the SOHC4 forum...

Bike: 1976 CB550k, 16kmi

I think I have oil leaking from my cam chain tensioner screw/nut. After running a while, it appears drippy and oil is seeping from that area along the lowest fin then drips down over the left side case, and sometimes splashes onto the shift lever rubber and my boot. ANyone else seen this? I've loosened it, cleaned it, then tightened it (in the appropriate manner) to no avail.

Thanks

There is an o-ring under the flat washer, sounds like the culprit.

Thanks for helping a noob! Just picked it up at the shop. Now, can I install it? Just cram it in there behind the washer? should I fish the old one out somehow?

Yes you must remove anything in there first
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Thanks.

Just did it. No big whoop with a little sharp screwdriver to dig out that 33-year-old rubber.
