It should fit OK. The 78 cover was a slightly heavier casting...that's about it.

If it is just the cover, then it should fit. The head itself has different oil routing I think.

Well I got the motor on the bench yesterday, the reason I asked about the valve cover is that the P.O. before me stripped the paint off so what I will do now is reprime it and get it back to black. My stator cover is also polished aluminum which will be fun trying to get back to the original color scheme of the 78 super sport.     ;D

They're all the same fit, no worries. Make sure you "etch prime" the bare alloy cases before painting them, and VHT "Satin Black" engine enamel is a reasonably close match to the OEM Honda paint, but if in doubt, paint the other outer cases with the same paint. I didn't like drab satin paint much, so i just did the top and bottom cases in Satin black, but painted the alternator cover, sprocket cover, transmission cover, and clutch cover (under the chrome cover) and valve cover in VHT gloss black engine enamel, and am more than happy with the result. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
