I read here on the forum that the NGK BP7ES is more for racer bikes. Mine look like they are running rich with the black sooty carbon on them. If I install the NGK BP5ES will this help it run a little leaner? .... This is on a 1975 CB550F SS.
Do not run "BP" plugs on these bikes, they are a projected tip design of spark plug intended for a different application. Check your owners or service manual for the correct plug for your model, I "THINK" it is B7ES. B5 is significantly hotter, I wouldn't use it.
A hotter plug will not make a mixture leaner, only the proper repair or adjustment will do that. Changing the spark plug type cannot change a mixture.
Don't look for short cuts, you will only create other problems for yourself later. Learn to diagnose and correctly repair your bike. There are many people here willing to help you.
