Would this m/cyl improve CB550 braking?
« on: April 12, 2009, 01:09:52 AM »
The link below is for a Goldwing master cyl with a 14mm bore?

What is a standard CB550 bore?

If this piston is larger would it increase the bite on the disc for the same amount of pull or not? Obviously more fluid would be displaced but would the extra effort required to shift this extra fluid offset any advantage?

My CB550 disc is pretty good with rebuilt caliper (stainless steel piston), rebuilt m/cyl, sintered pads and braided lines, but it would be nice to improve them further without resorting to the twin disc setup and the extra unsprung and inertial weight that brings.

Or has anyone fitted any other m/cyl which has made a good improvement?

Standard 500 is 14mm bore and wing ought to be 17

+1. Really improved performance, also easier to mount drag bars.

Depends on the model year and braking configuration.  The GL1200 has linked brakes, which means that the front brake lever operates only the left front disk, and the brake master cylinder is only 14mm.

Standard 500 is 14mm bore and wing ought to be 17

I have used the advertised brake master cylinder on my CB550, and it worked perhaps slightly better than the stock master cylinder.

Never worked on a wing with linked brakes so cant comment, if so the sellers description is wrong but i do know the 1000 wing has a bigger bore than a 500 and i have used them on twin disc setups to get more fluid moved
