yeah it looks nice like that, but it looks just as good as the other cb750 bobbers you see going down the road with a 17 in the back and a 19 in the front.

I follow you on that one. Before i got a bike I was wanting to have it all flat black, but now everyone seems to be doing that everywhere and my yellow is the oddball  :-\

HOORAY!
the rims and hubs are on their way! then I just gotta get them measured and order spokes from buchanan.
we've gone with a chrome rim, black hub and black wall tires with stainless spokes. Nobody seems to  make a white wall in a 120/70/21.

After that, we'll send the wheels and tires with the bike- off to the shop to have it hard tailed.
I'll post pics as progress ...progresses.  :-\  ;)

I suppose not having a white wall in 21in is to be expected. Not a very common size. Maybe you can take a white tire marker or paint pen and color the letters and at least have white lettering. I did that on a truck I had and it actually looked very good. I used a paint pen from testes, you know the company that makes paint for model cars. ;)

It's still in the works, I have alot less money than my friend.

so far I have 2 hubs, 1 set of spokes, a chain, and I'm getting a DOHC swing arm stretched by the same guy thats doing the hard tail.
I'll make a  "21 inch cafe"  thread when I start putting it all together, for all to see and enjoy.

I'm not sure what the attraction is to 21" wheels?
If your just looking for something to stand around and talk about, I guess that is fine.
But to actually get out and ride, your just wasting your time.
The reason you see fat tires on hard tails is because you can run low air pressue in them and get some sort of suspension so your kidneys don't fall out or just quit working.
21" tires are all going to be skinny and not offer any shock absorbtion or traction in the corners.

If you are going to use 21" wheels then you should really keep the suspension.

Isnt that what the sprung seat is for? Besides, some people CLEARLY like hard tails as they will probably never die out unless banned by govt. So just cause some of you do not see the appeal does not mean it is worthless. How many of you have actually RIDDEN a hardtail for more than 1 ride?

YAY! I got the rims in the mail for the 21 inch bobber today!
21x2.15 and a 21x3.25-
i sat them next to my bike for comparison

here's the 21x3.25 on top of the stock 18x2.15 rear rim and tire.

we will be using a 120/70/21 tire mounted in reverse.

I followed your build with all the naysayers spouting off about those chains breaking. :D :D :D

I know how strong welded chains are, our mailbox used to be made of them ;D

seen a few pot holes I wished I wouldn't have seen but besides that it's a smooth ride......I was never worried that those chains would break...it's stronger then the rest of the frame.... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Kewl, it's in real time now.  Was wondering if you were going to go through with it or just keep the photoshop thing going.  It will be interesting to see this through the build.

Good luck with the 21'' wheels (I'm a big fan)..
Ran one on the front of my old CB750, and eventually will be running one on the CL450 I am about to tear into.
My buddy Shane just finished up his CL dirtbike deal-e-o with a hardtail and 21'' front (and knobbies !)

QUESTION:
Where'd you get the 21x3.25 wheel ?
If I do run a 21'' on the front of my new project I want it to be a wide 21'' 4 sure...

The 21x3.25'' came from Jireh Cycles. they're only 40 bucks. a 120/70 tire is a bout 140-160 retail and about 15 for the 4 inch tube.

Buchanan seems to have a monopoly on spokes...
does anyone know how to get spokes cheaper?

that hardtail dirtbike looks like fun, I used to have an oooold hard tail 12 horse mini bike.

you should put it in the inspiration thread.
what is it based on... or what was it before?

I'm getting a swing arm done like that, in anticipation within a month or two.

Now that's getting the airy look and feel that the 21" wheels deserve.
What about the oil tank?

I'll have to make one in a triangular shape to fit under the springs, and a little over the engine bolt.
..and the battery is gonna have to go under the tail. meaning the tail will hafta be a little bigger.
