I went out to start her up and....
« on: April 15, 2009, 06:48:51 AM »
...she had a dead battery...i've been starting her up almost everyday for a month now and ONE time i leave the light switch in the high beam setting and
voila..no spark! i usually turn off the lights completely when i roll into the driveway and then shut it off...that is the only thing i did different..maybe now i know why the previous owner installed a cut off switch? anyhow, i've got a question..has anybody ever heard of anyone using a magneto on these small bore hondas? maybe a link to someone or somewhere i can research it a bit?
Thanks for the Help!

This has come up. You might try a search on "magneto" using the 'Google Custom Search' in the upper-left. It will bring up quite a few threads on this subject.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Are you saying that leaving the light switch on High, even with the key off, kills your battery?  If so than I'd get that sorted before trying to replace the entire charging system.  Probably just some bad wiring.

Mystic 1, I'm not totally sure if that is what's causing my battery to die..that is the only thing different i've done..i faithfully turn the light switch off because it gives me piece of mind..only the one time i got called to pick up my daughter while running around the neighborhood i "Didn't" turn the light switch to the OFF position and when i went to go start it, it wouldn't start...mind you i've been out to the garage 25 plus times and always had the switch in the off position
until i started the bike and turned on the lights..habit that's good so you don't get a ticket here in California..i'm guessing there is a little short somewhere
but i won't tear apart any wiring YET
Thanks
