is there a little plate that sits over the slides that is held in by the screws? when the screws are taken out that whole assembly shound come out the top right?

You have the PD carbs? ...or earlier types?

I thought this thread was about 550's.  I'm not sure the 750's PD slide needles can be changed while still on the bike.  I haven't tried that specifically.

i would agree however your post with pics showing the tops of the carbs open look exactly like mine thats why I was asking. when you take the screws out is there a plate that the actuating are is attached to?

Cherry, remove the 2 small screws as TT describes and the actuating arm will pivot up and out leaving the slide and needle below...simply slide the slide up and out with your finger and needle comes right out, nothing holding it.....
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Wow, way to jack my thread! Ha ha just kidding, after my clip postion was answered that was going to be next question anyway. Btw- did we have a specific for that, or was the final answer that i just have to try different settings? And yes those are in fact ridiculous ape hangers. They are gone now and i have drag bars. the bike came with them on it and although it looked pretty sweet. . .

never really any hard facts when tuning is concerned.
there are dos and don'ts and good places to start... but leave it up to altitude and other variables to add headaches.

tuning is where you really start to understand that, yes it is a science, but no, there's some magic mixed in to.   ;D ;) ;D
