Almost ready for the road
« on: April 16, 2009, 01:26:10 PM »
Greetings all.  Figured I'd put up a few photo's of my 1974 CB550K, nothing fancy.  The seat is the first one I made and is a little rough, but I'm working on two others to see which shape I like the best.  I want something a little more like the shape of the tank.  The signals and brake light I had lying around and these too will be swapped out, but will work for now.  Magura clip-ons and Raask rear sets.  The shocks are from a 79 750 and are a little longer than the stock ones.  Pod filters, (yeah, I got bamboozled on these like some other folks here, to long).  I changed to 115 mains and will probably bump the pilots from 38 to 40.  I picked up the 4 to 1 with a megaphone muffler and am in the process of making an end cap for it.  Also making an exhaust extension with a 45 degree bend for s&g's.  For now I put the elcheapo tip on it.  I had some 3/32" aluminum so I cut and rolled it to make a sleeve to fit in the tip and over the header, as the bolts to hold the tip on were pretty lame.  Need to order a SS line and caliper fitting.  I also need to pick up a new tach, the one on it only worked if you held it upside down and the other one I had has a broken spring.  I'm going to bob the fender this weekend.  I figure she'll be on the road in the next week or so.

Charlie

Are you running without a baffle? How loud is it?

It's un-baffled for now. It is a bit loud but has a nice growl to it.  As far as paint goes, probably something simple, maybe red with two small white racing stripes or something.  I'm considering puting the knee indentations in the tank or maybe just a different tank.  I need to do something with the stock handlebar clamp as it's rather unsightly now.  I'm making a different speedo and tach mount bracket and will probably incorporate the indicators that was the top bar clamp on it.  I've aquired most of the parts for a dual disc conversion, so that will be in the near future as well.
