A couple things
« on: April 16, 2009, 06:57:26 PM »
The weekend is almost upon us and it's time to spend some quality time with the bike. I'm swearing off carbs this weekend and considering pulling the wheels of my 1974 550.  Just need to figure out how much torque goes on the nuts when I put it all back together.  My guess is it's in a manual (online) somewhere, I just need someone to guide me to it.  Any help is appreciated.

Also, I have a friend of a friend who tells me he can mount new tires on the wheels for me.  Given the importance of tires, what are your opinions on getting tires put on?  Do I need to take it somewhere where the wheels can be properly balanced?

You can put the tires on with a couple spoons and a strong arm.

Personally...I'm only as confident on a bike as I am in the tires.

I like to know how they were put on and that they were put on correctly.

If your friend is experienced, knows what he is doing ( has dealt with motorcycle tires before) and you trust him....go for it.
Otherwise think it over...I've seen more than a few put on backwards and I caught my local Honda dealer putting a 19" tube in a 18" tire....true story.

And yes...you should balance them
