How many blues folks are here?
« on: April 18, 2009, 09:10:02 AM »
I gotta say I love rock, grew up on it and oldies. But man blues is where its at, been an addiction for about 10yrs now. Every time I trun around I hear someone new.

I recently learned alot about Eric Claption and his journey in this life, man kewl dude.
Some I know right of hand:
Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Little feat, The Band, The Edgar Winter Group, BB( we all know that), PRB band(pops blue rythem band), Taj Mahal, Stevie Ray(can't forget him either), Jimi Hendrix for a few of his songs, Bobby Blue Band. Many more that I can't think of names of.

I want to hear what jams you have or have heard of, let's shake it.

I was lucky when I was 18 or 19 and found a couple of roadhouses on the chitlin circuit. I got to see Freddy King so close he sweated all over me. BB, Buddy Guy with and without Junior Wells, Luther Allison, Jimmy Dawkins, Hubert Sumlin with Eddie Shaw, I missed Howlin Wolf and Muddy Waters unfortunately, Earl King, Roomful of Blues first with Duke Robillard( and Eddie Vinson one time), then Ronnie Earl, Johnny Winter, Gatemouth Brown, J.B Hutto, Matt Murphy, Lowell Fulsom, James Cotton, Luther Johnson, Big Jack Johnson, Johnny Johnson, the Kinseys, Son Seals, Pinetop Perkins, the great Etta James, Kim Wilson, Bonnie Raitt in the early '70's... I also got to see alot of R&B acts which I also loved

People I would have loved to see live, aside from Wolf and Muddy: Albert Collins, Snooks Eaglin, Magic Sam, Big Maybelle, Willa Mae Thorton, Guitar Slim, The Johnny Otis revue, T-bone Walker, Jimmy Reed

I've heard Matt is not doing so well since a stroke about 5 years ago. He had stopped playing and my friend ended up with a bunch of his guitars. I borrowed an early 60's 335 that he had owned, for a couple of days. It was sunburst like the one in this video, but I don't recall if it had the 345 style fret markers. Very youthful and strong looking fellow, I hope he's OK.

Hmm, looks like that is a 345, I think I see the varitone switch in the video. Also interesting to see that amp setup that Tab Benoit is using. Looks like a Twin and a Super reverb daisy chained together using the in input one, and out input two to the super. Sounds really good too!

I've been a big fan of the blues most of my life. I used to host a blues radio show when I was a DJ at the campus radio station back in college. A few faves, enjoy!:

Oh yeah it's hoppin', make's me wish I was born a few decades sooner than 1977, one thing I always liked about the blues is every corner you turn there is another one or person you have never heard of and jams so hard makes you wonder how you missed that one.
Been jamming to some Derek and the Domino's this mornin'
some snake lake blues, when things go wrong(it hurt's me too). 8)

Hard to go wrong with EC. You probably ran across the fact that Duane Allman was a "Domino". Did the slide on layla.

Story goes EC was at an Allman Bros concert, went up to Duane after the show and told him he was the best guitar player in the world.

Don't know that for a fact, just a story. Anyway, lost Duane way too soon. Motorcycle accident.

Well hello Benly-ben those guys in the Jalapenos look like they put on a pretty great show! 8)
You got that on the dot MCRider can't go wrong with EC, and I didn't know that about Duane Allman until recently about a month ago, it is tragic how they get pulled from us like that. Fuzzy goin' to see Taj Mahal...I'm jealous :'( I bet that's a trip to see.
EC has an album collection that he came out with called "crossroads" it has four cd's worth of, EC, Derek and the Domino's, The Yardbirds, and Cream. All great Eric Clapton goodness, right on right on. It has a bit of a bio from him in the bookset also that tells about his history all the way back to when he was a little lad living on the other side of the pond.
