Maybe, good for the oversized front but its butt ugly.  It has the smallest drum brake I have ever seen.  Its wide and "oversized" and what not, but the fork tubes are so skinny so I think it takes away from the look, and its ugly lol.

If I were closer, i'd buy a 550 swingarm and rim just to tell you that you should give up on the trike, and go stock...
So I could use the trike rear end!

But seriously, I think that could be quite the trike!
I vote keep the trike kit.

I was just kidding about the front tire. They should really have a sarcasm font on this thing.

Kinda looks like an old Polaris rearend, I wouldnt feel very safe at hiway speeds with half an old $#!tty 4 wheeler under me. But thats just my opinion, half the stuff I do is so far from the realm of safe that I wouldnt suggest listening to any thing I say.  ;D ;D ;D

can't stay a trike and be safe with that rigged setup that was on it.
dude's gonna make a 2 wheeled bad ass 550 out of it, and I can't wait to see the progress.
everything I say is pure speculation and
I have no idea what I'm talking about  ._.

Sweet score!!!  That trike rear end is pretty neat, but I would ditch it too.......unless I had another bike to ride.  ;D

Throw it in the "for sale" section of the forum.  With all the votes to keep it a trike, maybe someone in your area would buy it or swap you for the parts you need.

Well, I'm back to working on my bike.  I got de-railed by things like getting married, work, and a dog.  Now that things have slowed down I can make more progress.  I've gotten two carbs completely rebuilt, and painted (black) got my cases all cleaned and painted (duplicolor cast iron) and my jugs painted (duplicolor semi gloss black).  I will have more pictures up soon.  Im getting ready to start putting the lower end together again.  I've got all my seals and gaskets except that one bastard that no one makes anymore the 34X8 mm oil seal.  I was thinking of getting some rubber and laser cutting one, I dont know if it will work but any advice would be greatful.  I have made my mind up to hard tail it ala jreich's build seen here http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=36458.0.  I took alot of measurements off of the stock swing arms axle plate and drew up me a new axle plate I plan on laser cutting out of a572 half inch steel.  When that is done I will put up some pics.  I could put up a line drawing of the plate if anyone is interested in it.

Well got some more done with the motor.  Everyday Im feeling more confident with it.  Im starting re-assy now

It sure is going together easier than it came apart!  Its been a while since ive even thought about the bike.
I hope to have my axle plates cut soon, got some material in.  So far Ive been adding up what Ive spent on my free 550k, and I dont think its that bad,
$90 top end gaskets
$42 for bottom end stuff
$29 for stock swing arm that Im not gonna use
$100 or so for carb re build kits
Not sure how much on rattle cans, but its not that bad.  The real purchases will come when I try to get a stock front end and brake and rotor assy, and rear wheel with brake assy, oh and new clutch plates and what not.  Either way its a small investment in something that has the potential of being a cool build

I might have a brake assembly for you to include mc, caliper and rotor, if you are interested. I'd do you a good deal...

Was actually wondering if anyone could give me some measurements on how far the bottom frame rails are off the ground on a stock 550k.  I don't have a stock front end yet, but I want to set up a jig for welding on a hard tail, I would like to keep it all stock from the rear engine mounts forward.  I would've taken some measurements before I tore mine apart but it wasn't stock to begin with!

Got my axle plates cut today.  Still gotta do some measuring and make a jig, but maybe with in the next few weeks I will get started on hard tailing the bike.  Also made a quick and dirty video of the plates being made.  Got a few oil seals in, waiting on stainless hardware to come in to button up the bottom end.  So its really just a waiting game

Not to sure if I did it right, but here is the vid

That machine is my baby, I'm its operator.  I work at a small shop with 4 lasers.  I program parts for customers as well as make my own stuff in between runs.  I also make my own custom signs and have my own customers.  It definitely is an advantage.

Got a little more done.  Im so glad I took lots of pics, cause I tore it down in like April of 09.......
Got the case halves back together

Got all the shifting linkage back in.

I work on the engine at work in between long runs behind one of our lasers

and thats about it for an update.  Need a few more gaskets before I flip it over and go top side.  A few more parts to clean, and then two more carbs to rebuild and it "should" be done.  Then I will get to frame work!

I'm just about to reassemble my cases. Is doing it upside down like this easier?

Yeah, because upside down should've been the way you took it apart.  If you have it upside down and you pull the main shaft and split the cases everything will stay with the top case.  When you put it back together again, put everything in the top case, put the tranny in neutral and go at it.  I haven't flipped it right side up yet because I forgot to get a new oil pan gasket.  So I started working on some of the other things.  Once I get the oil pan back on, I'm right side up the rest of the re build.  It helped that I took a lot of pics, and have a manual, but I still printed off the  drawings you would find on like bikebandit and stuff.  Have fun getting yours back together, it makes me feel a certain sense of pride seeing it come back together, but I'm sure it will be short lived when it doesn't run!  Time will tell.

Thanks for that, It makes sense when you see the pictures. I did reasemble it the rightway up a few months ago just for storage and it was bloody difficult!!! I wasn't looking forward to trying it again with jointing compound and fresh paint!

Yeah it sounds like it would be a pain.  Ive got almost all of my engine parts painted  now, but haven't even begun to do any frame work, so i will have to be extra careful when doing mock up.

Hey, we do the same kind of work as it seems. I do the programming for a Mazak 510 and I just cut my plates from .375 carbon steel. Looks like a clean cut there. I wonder how you are cutting that small of a hole though that thick of material. 1/4 " holes through any thing thicker than 3/8 usually gets blown out on the back side in my experience. Keep it up looks good!
