Nice spring day and evening...everyone out for a ride and all the four wheel idiots are coming out too. Out on the 96 magna and had some As#$hole slam on his brakes with me right behind at about 10 - 15 mph. I hit the brakes so hard, rear slid out and I layed it down on the right side. Not too much damage.... rash on mirror, tach, rear brake lever and very minor on saddlebag,  but bent right handlebar riser so I have a little bit of repair work to do on the bike but is still rideable. Since weather is going to get damp for the next couple of days... will give me a chance to get everything fixed.  So  be afraid....be very afraid.....there are more and more of these idiots out there......

Ride with your light on..

Ride as if you are invisible..

And very few cars can outbrake you.....unless you are following too close..

I have known many bikers that think it is cool to ride right on someones ass.  Used to be a good argument starter with one of my ex G/F's.  And I dont care what you drive if your on my ass youll see the brakes.

If no one else will, I'll point it out.  Your responsible for what is in front of you when following a car.  If you had ample room in front of you to stop for any reason possible then you would have not laid your bike down.  That room is up to you.  It doesn't matter what the other drivers reasoning was but if you were to slam in to him, you would have got a ticket and paid for their repairs.  I am not going to call you any names but I think that you should re-think just who was at fault here.  It's a bummer about the damage to your bike but it could have been your head or collar bone.  Remember that next time you are behind any car.  Use the force, Luke.

Actually they got of real lucky & quite cheaply..

A lot of people got broken bones, aches, and lose a bike for that lesson..

More info on the deal. I had just pulled out of a parking lot and started to accelerate up to a intersection about 75 ft. ahead with (this being my stupidity) my feet on the highway pegs since I wasn't going to kick into 2nd. So when this truck slams on his brakes (and I don't remember seeing brake lights, just the truck quickly stopping it's motion) I only had the front hand brake and that was what put me at a disadvantage in getting it stopped safely. If I had my feet on the regular pegs, I probably would have had no problem in stopping without incident. I am not only po'd at the other guy, but at myself. If I have to have an incident, let it be like this one. Very minor damage due to the low speed and the way I put it down. It was certainly my wake-up call for this season. Just put this thread up to vent and remind everybody that they are out there and they don't give a sh%t about bikers. Season is just starting and it will get worse in a few weeks so keep your eyes open and your mind at work. I have already fixed everything except the tach housing which will probably have to be be replaced at a cost of $50 and the rest of the damage I will end up living with and fix as I can. Hey Hef, i may be a graybeard, but still got pretty fast reactions to go from accelerating to braking that quickly.

i don't doubt a motorcyclist's reflexes... they are usually fairly well honed or they haven't been riding long enuf.   ;)

you posted your age, its more than mine, i had to be my usual wise-crackin' self.   8)

I treat all other road users as complete morons capable of anything at any time when I'm out on my bike.
Mind you most try to avoid me for some reason? :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I have to agree with 78ss here - regardless of where your feet were, if you cannot stop in an emergency in the space you left to the vehicle in front, knowing your bike capability, age and reactions, whether or not it had working brake lights, it's not the person in front who's at fault. You need to work out your limitations and ride within them. You just worked out one of yours the hard way.

Sorry to hear about the damage to your ride but if you step out of the situation and look at it with neutral eyes, I think you'll find you're blaming the wrong guy...
