It's Knucklebustin' Time
« on: April 17, 2009, 04:24:31 PM »
I am not at all sure which forum this goes in, but here goes...and Admins, if it needs to be moved, by all means please do.

I finally have a coupel of weeks with my wife out of the country and my kids well occupied (grandparents are great!), so it is finally time to tear into my "not so new anymore" '77 750F.  On tap are a carb cleanup, brake inspection and cleanup/rebuild, and as far as i can get on general maintenance and tuning.  That said, I am both excited and humbled by the daunting-ness of the task ahead of me.  So I propose a little offer...For anyone in the area (Los Angeles-Westside/Southbay) with some time on their hands right about now, I'll buy the beer (or other refreshment of your choosing) in exchange for a little "save me from myself-edness."  This is my first bike and I am dying to get it on the road and enjoy it.  I have a pretty fair assembly of general tools as well as alot of the application specific chemicals (carb/brake cleaners, pb blaster, simple green, that dow high heat lube for the brakes).

Any and all takers...

...and thanks in advance, I hate to screw up a perfectly good ride.

ahhh, I'd do it in a minute if you weren't 2500 miles away!   ;D

But, two weeks ought to be PLENTY to do all you need to do!  Go slow, be fussy & meticulous and have fun!

Take pictures and post 'em along the way!

Good luck.

look up the members map and send locals a pm begging for assistance..  but sometimes it is better to do the grunt work yourself - with a little assistance from knowledgable friends or the forum of course..

good luck with your two week holiday..... :)

Thanks for the encouragement.  I will definitely shotgun the map as they say and see what sticks.  I have no doubt that even just having the forum as a resource will greatly aid my little enterprise.  If I were smart I should stat a project thread to force myself to keep moving.
