« on: April 20, 2009, 12:11:05 PM »
The BBC called the other day wanting to interview me, and wound up making the video basically about me reinstalling the speedo on my C70--

check it out!

That's a great interview. Why are you installing your speedo and head light? Is this a security thing?

Good luck finding a new job.

Rick

Rick,

Good interview and some positive attitude for tough times.  I'm sure you'll find that dream job...you've got great credentials and training, as well as the right attitude.  (Just like me: Mechanical engineer who worked in computing.  Hey, I got through it and now found my dream job in retirement - teaching motorcycle riding!)

thanks for the comments-- about the speedo... well, no--when i bought the c70 a few months ago, the speedo glass was broken and the speedometer was full of broken glass.  Now that i'm riding it more, not having glass is a pane...  Although it wasn't in there during the filming, they just wanted me to be doing something.  so i just put it back in...

Oh man, i've been trying to find a place where I can teach kids to ride bikes.  I actually like bicycles a lot better from an efficiency standpoint, although motorcycles have a better nervous, circulatory, and excretory systems.  If only they could reproduce!  can you imagine what it was like when everyone rode horses?  "Hey bob, lets get your Ducati to mate with my Kawasaki H2, and we'll get some kind of a badass fast racehorse!  and it'll run on grass!  and repair itself!" Those must have been the days.

Rick,

Looks like you've got that broken speedo apart.  (You can usually carefully pry the chrome ring off and the glass can then be removed/replaced.)  If you get a hold of a piece of Plexiglas it can be easily cut to shape and substituted for the original glass.  That's what I did on my Super Hawk and it turned-out looking fine.  (Then you can open-up a repair/restoration shop for old Hondas.)

I dremeled off the front of the bezel, as you can see in the second pic.  I wish i had just pried it off somehow, but I didn't think it was going to work.  I sealed it up with silicone, which I hope works out, although i have my doubts.   what're ya going to do--  i guess i'll just have to wait and see.
