My CB900C!

Thought I'd post a pic of the new ride on here for you all to see :D



It's a 1982 Honda CB900 Custom with about 48,000, which some of you may remember me asking some questions about when I bought it a few weeks back, and I am happy to report that it is up and running and I just put about 100 miles on it Friday.

So far I've done the following to it:
    - New Plugs
    - New plug wires and boots
    - Valve adjustment
    - Sea foam in the gas and crankcase(the 100 mile ride was to run the seafoam through it)
    - Wind Jammer removed
    - Headlight installed
    - Rear trunk thingie removed(it was falling apart)
    - Bath

To Do:
    - Fluid change(now that the seafoams run through it), Oil, tranny, final drive, brake, forks.
    - Figure out why the blinkers no longer work(thinking this has to do with the removal of windjammer and/or trunk)
    - Install front blinkers

It seems to be running really well, and assuming it makes it through this season without any major issues I am planning on pulling the tank & side covers and having them repainted, as well as get the valve covers and other engine covers kerma-chromed this coming winter while she sits in the garage.  Also planning a full carb rebuild this winter too.

Little bit of work on this, and then it's back to the cafe project. Just finished school so I have time to focus on the project again, but managed to distract myself with this new ride instead  ;D

i like these things and yours is looking good! a buddy got one in some deal but has yet to ride it.  ::) carbs need work i guess.

so, what's the deal with that high-low gear box?

so, what's the deal with that high-low gear box?

You've got 5 low and 5 high.  The low 5 are short gears which are great for burning up the back tire and flying off the line, however the low gears all involve a lot of shifting and high RPM's.  The high gears are great for crusing, less shifting and lower RPM's. 

I've found that a lot of the time I put it in low, fly off the line, and then get it up to fifth and then kick it into the high gears to drop the RPM's down.  So I'm basically using it as a overdrive 6th gear.

I do have to admit, it's kinda nice having the choice between the different gears depending on how I feel like driving it :D

And just to clarify, if you are in 5th high, and kick it down to low gears you will be in 5th low, NOT 1st low.  The high/low shifter just switches you between the same gear number.

Ironically enough I have my girlfriend to thank for this one.  She wants to start coming with for the ride, but requires a nice big comy seat to sit on.....which lead me on my quest for an inexpensive cruiser.  And the Corbin seat this one came with definatley fits the Bill, and since I'm starting to develop a problem with these old Honda's it works out well for me too  ;D

Oh and I almost forgot!

If your friends looking for info on the bike check here. http://www.cb750c.com/  lots of info and the document section has a free download of the official Honda service manual in PDF format.  Someone on this forum pointed me to thisi one for the DOHC's

I almost tore my carbs apart before talking to the guys on that form who convinced me to hold off.  Step 1 should be the valve adjustment, and step 2 is the seafoam....those 2 worked wonders for me, and are much easier than a carb rebuild  ;)

Looks good!!!!   I always liked them as they had the same style as most of the 650's.  Just cant warm up to the dual range thing.  ;D  And it would be the blue I love  ::)

Well if he doesn't I'd highly recommend  you ride it!  Doesn't really corner too well, but if you want to go real fast in a straight line those low gears will be your best friend :D

Don't know much.  I found it doing some google image results for cafe racers and CB750's.  I posted it once on this forum asking if anyone knew the bike, and no one knew who it belonged to, but everyone did agree that it looked like a CR750 Replica with some updated front forks.  Right now I'm torn between doing my build up of my project as an all out cafe, or a CR replica that looks like the red one.

And just so we're clear, you are talking about this one right


And thanks, I don't usually update too often but I mainly use it for my notes and documenting projects.

 :D :D so, that was you asking about that? i remember that query. by that paper on the headlight it looks as though he's in a race.

as if dragging the centerstand wasn't a clue.

Possibly, though most racers I know, or have seen, generally wear a bit more gear when racing ::)

i have it on good authority denim and fiberglass 'helmets' are all the protection you need. all that safety propaganda you read is from the dot special interest groups. it is a little known fact we have several layers of skin, and two brain hemispheres. brain damage to the left? no problem... use the other side. left you 'mom' tattoo on the tarmac? take your vitamins and grow some more skin!
