CB750 K0 needle setting
« on: April 17, 2009, 10:27:05 AM »
Looking at this table:
http://hondachopper.com/carb.specs.html
Theres a column labeled "JN". I'm guessing this is the needle setting. Right? If not, anyone know what the standadr setting is for a 1970 K0? Also, are the clip positions numbered from top to bottom? Thanks for the help

Stock air cleaner, Mac 4 into 1 exhaust. It's running waaaaay rich. Bike was sitting decaying in the garage for 20 years. I cleaned out the carbs but set float heights from the gasket surface instead of the flange 'cos that's what my notes from 38 years ago said to do. So I'm going to pull the carbs again, clean out the airways etc a bit more and set the needles to whatever is standard. Don't want to be pulling those carbs off too often so I'd like to get all my ducks lined up.

"looks" ok but is 20 years old. I got a new one from partsnmore but the foam gaskets are so thick I can't get the lower box to thread on. It's on my list of stuff to do. I've only ridden the bike about 100 miles since restoration and it runs terribly - sounded rich to me which was borne out by checking the veeeery sooty plugs. Good call though. Filter replacement is on the agenda. How does your '69 run?

It ran great till I hit 15 or 16k rpm. Still got me home after, but yeah...

Try running it WITHOUT the filter today, see what ya get.

I've gotten filters that are too thick with their rubber gaskets also. The temptation is to overtighten the lower cover wing nuts. Don't...as you will break the internal plastic on the airbox and be looking at a very expensive K0 airbox fix or replacement. Assuming you have a K0 box of course...many have been replaced with later airboxes.

Yesterday I pulled the carbs, re-cleaned & set the float levels. Pulled the fat gaskets off the new filter and stuck on some 1/8" weatherstrip. Bike runs really well now - night & day difference. I think the air cleaner was the problem. Still idles badly but today I'll re-synch the carbs and I'm pretty sure it'll still idle badly. Much more fun to ride than the Goldwing.
