CB200T Hot Idle Problems
« on: April 20, 2009, 07:04:17 PM »
My friend's got a great little CB200T that, after a trip to the mechanic has developed a problem where the idle starts fluctuating wildly up and down when coming to a stop with clutch dis-engaged and the motor is properly hot   >:(

At first I thought it might be an air leak, but nothing changed when spraying wd-40 on the carb rubber junctions.

Air cleaner is pretty terrible but that wasn't a problem before...

I've spent only a little time with it.  I was told it recently received a tune up from a mechanic I trust, including a carb sync.  It developed a problem when it went to another mechanic in town who I don't particularly trust.

Next I am going to sync the carbs, just in case... easy compared to my cb750.  I also told her to install some in-line fuel filters because the tank is not so great.  any other ideas on what it could be?  timing advance mechanism binding up due to dried grease doing odd things when hot?  Any advice would be appreciated, especially if you have a lot of experience with Honda twins.

I'd start with the carbs; they're super-sensitive on those bikes. I have a 74 Cb 200. I suggest cleaning the tank, installing clear fuel lines with filters, and clean the carbs.

Check the points too. Once it's running, it'll be a long time in between problems. Good luck.
