18"x5.75 harley rim with honda hub?
« on: April 20, 2009, 07:48:48 PM »
Hi... Im new to CB750s but just got one that im making into kinda a chopper thing.  I have welded up a new rear section of frame into a hard tail manor and am thinking that I really want to go with a wider tire.  Something in the 180 to 200 range.. I also would like to have a bit larger diameter tire as well as I bought a fender and the stock 16" mag wheel with 130 65 looks like a kids bike tire wheel combo on the thing.. anyways I have looked around online a bit and found a 18" cb750F spoked wheel on ebay in my price range(kinda liking the rear disk as well), also in my travels I have found a 18" x 5.75" Harley rim on JPcycles also within my price range.   will this work?  I looked on the FAQ page and found nothing to do with 18 inch rims and a whole lot to do with 16 inch rims.. anyone done this?  also I am asuming I am going to need to run a off set sprocket as well.  any help would be great.. thanks a lot,
Joseph

check out cyclexchange.net There are instructions on how to go with a fatter tire. I would check ebay for you hoop. I got a 16x5 rim for 40 bucks new and a 16x 3 hoop for like 25 new as well. Search this forum there is tons of information.

One thing to be aware of is that if you go with the F wheel, you'll need to replace the swingarm and acquire the brake/master cylinder bracketry as well.

I've got a slightly rusted 16" wheel/rim/hub that you can have for shipping if you're interested.  It'd be ok for experimentation or painting the rim, but the chrome is way shot.

It's real hard to get anything over a 180 behind a SOHC engine.  You can't go past about a 150 with the stock sprockets, a 160 with the later-model sprockets, and to get a 180 requires the offset sprockets from CycleX.  To get a 200 back there you gotta offset the motor.

Hey super white pasty guy.. is it a F wheel that your talking about? I would be very interested.  I currently have a new rear frame section that I have made.  I was thinking of using a caliper from something else and mounting it on the frame it self with some type of adjustment so you can adjust it when your chain stretches or when you put a new chain in and say using a Harley master or something cheap on eBay.  sense I am into this and do kinda want a 200 tire on the back how much do I have to move the engine to get the 200 on?  and wouldn't I have to move both engine and wheel sprockets? You wouldnt want them to be off set at all right?  Thanks a lot for all your help so far..  oh yeah and ebay seems to only have 3" and 7" on there right now.. I guess I will keep my eye out..

150 fits stock

20mm offset sprocket, should get a 190 size  in.

If you offset lace 2 or 3mm, I think it may work..
