Trust me, I'd love to keep this bike when I'm done! It's going to be amazing! I've just decided to give it a break for a few years, if you lived in Detroit you'd understand, the traffic is just not fun to deal with on a 40+ year old bike! I did it last summer on my red K1 that I've been riding for 5 years now but only did maybe 1,000 miles last season. Idiot drivers, crazy traffic and my air-cooled, single disk brake Honda don't mix well!

Basically I've decided to sell the bikes to get back into a classic car. I grew up here in Detroit and I guess since moving back the muscle car bug has bit me again! In highschool I had a '69 GTO convertible for my first car and that was just fun to ride around and go to shows with. I'm thinking I will get much more fun out of a toy car than my bikes for now and as much as I'd like to have both, well . . . as my friend Tim says, we can't all be Jay Lenno, can't keep everything!

My red bike will be going on the auction block in a couple weeks. I have to detail her and swap out the non-correct '74 rear fender I've been riding with for a correct '71 fender I just picked up. I'm also trying to send her off right with a fresh paint job on the tank and sidecovers since my old paint job had some stone chips and scratches. Already sprayed them, just have to wet sand the tank, put on the decals, and clear over it all. So like I said, couple weeks and she'll be tip-top ready for someone else to enjoy!
It does make me a little sad though, I'm the second owner of my red K1 and I've personally put over 20,000 miles on her in the past 4 years while restoring her.  Anyone interested?

I'll post some photos soon of my red bike on here too. Theres one in the "CB750 registry" page of her but I'll get some recent ones. Also, stay updated . . .I'm just a few boxes in the mail away from having my gold K1 finished! Exciting eh?

The 69 GTO...great car. Below is a pic of the one I bought in high school in 1971. I restored it in the 80's and only drove it on nice days. Got married, had kids, sold it, then got back into the vintage Honda thing. I still enjoy the vintage bikes and have not got the car bug back yet.

Here's my 'ol 1968 GTO . . . haha that was fun. It was 2001, I was 16 and I talked the guy from $2500 down to $900, the drove her home . . . good times :)
I remember driving through parking lots getting a kick out of setting off car alarms with the combo of a 400 big block with headders and cherry bombs. She wasen't too pretty but I got lots of attention at car shows. This was the first car I ever even popped a hood on; you learn how to work on things fast when it means the difference between sitting home on a weekend or having a car to go out!

Oh, and On a more bike-related note: got my fork gaiters in the mail from parts n' more, along with some other little things I needed.
Bad news though . . . after searching online for a loooong time I found that Babbits website still had the K1 NOS tank trim in stock. I have two near perfect left side trim strips, but need two right side ones so I ordered them, thought everything was cool just to get an e-mail two days later saying they're sorry, the part is no long available and they're refunding my credit car. :(
Anyone out there have a couple RIGHT side tank trim strips?!?  I'm getting close to useing the chrome window strips people talk about and just putting some black pinstripe stickers on them but I really want to keep both these K1's I have as original as possible . . . HELP ME!!! anyone have some or know where I can order some NOS?  I know you can get the "sandcast" strips still . . .

I don't know if you can get just one side, but www.hondanuts.com is where I got my 1st pack. The 2nd pack I just bought for my K4 restore I found on eBay.

Thanks for the suggestion, I checked them before and did again just now . . . no dice :(

Anyone else have a site they know still carries them? Or a personal stash they'd be willing the break into for me :)

Here's some photos of the hand made cargo box the original owner made for this bike. It's really slick, has a hand painted map on the side with pin striping of his trips. I really like this, its a cool piece of CB750 history.  I'm still plugging away on the bike, paint is done, now just have to finish putting her back together. Free time has been scarce lately.

please don't sell it....you WILL regret it.

If it's paid for, just push it in the back of the garage and disconnect the battery for awhile.

The only problem is, I live in an apartment so no garage :(    I wouldn't want to leave this bike outside, plus I already sold my red '71 750.  Had a good run with that girl, 5 years and 25,000 miles. It's just living down in Detroit the riding is too crazy for an old bike. I do still have a '77 cb750 chilling in the back of my storage unit that I may "modernize" with some duel disks and electronic ignition to putz around town or just to still have a bike for the weekends. On the plus side, I do have a new toy :)  Took the cash from selling my red bike and bought a '66 Plymouth Barracuda formula S. I've been driving it daily and getting tons of fun outta her. Its a more safe toy for this crazy traffic with the girlfriend and such. I can always buy another bike in the future to restore, shoot I know these things like the back of my hand now, I could round trip one in 2 weeks if I wanted to. Oh and the guy I sold my red bike to lives in Spain, said I can ride it anytime I want so that's cool she went to a good home :)
Oh, meet my new ride!

That Cargo box is way cool ....  Even if you sell the bike, i'd seriously think about keeping that box.  Very slick piece of history.   I'd hate to see it tossed out to the trash by someone who didn't know what it was.

Finally!!! Update . . . so if anyone was was considering or has kids considering going to med school, just make sure to let them know you can pretty much kiss your free time bye-bye!

Back at it again, spring time and the "gold bike" as I call it is nearly complete. Another couple days of a warm spell and it'll be done. Been spending a fair amount of time lately getting the pieces together. Cleaning, polishing, finishing, more polishing ect . . . Have some photos from a little bit ago of the finished tank and sidecovers along with some other things. Man, I just can't believe how amazing condition all these original parts are!!!! The guy I bought it from had it stashed in the back room of his garage covered up, he waxed the pipes and other chrome before putting it way so the stuff is dam near like new! Love it!!! I've seen so many of these bikes in just sad sad shape and people trying to sell them as "in good shape for its age" but its just a POS. Its so great to spend a couple hours cleaning and detailing grime off just to find whats underneath is nearly MINT!  Makes me smile :)
So far still planning on selling her when she's totally finished. Anyone have dibs let me know! I'm going to finish this one up, try to get rid of this '77 cb750 I have lying around too and just focus on my Barracuda this summer. Taking some time off from riding for a while. To everyone on the road this spring have a great season and be safe!!!
Photos:

HM300! Beautiful, just amazing shape!

Another photo of those white gauges. I've spoken with two honda bike mechanics that were around in the '70s and they both said they were a rare dealership option and they only saw one or two around. Hondaman on the forums here said they're the same as the one's he saw on a bike that came into the shop near Chicago. Pretty sweet and one of a kind for sure!

They're just the stock K1 badges that were really ugly so I media blasted them and hand painted the black/white then clear coated with my spray gun. Turned our really nice! Thanks for noticing  ;)

Yah, I noticed them. Very nice job. My K1 candy gold is in for paint right now. My OEM HONDA badges are chrome trim too. If you order new ones they come with gold trim...go figure that one out. So I am also going to go with my OEM. They are pretty nice, but I thought if I could get new I would. Keep the pics coming...great bike.

Holy cow, I just found the original owner of this bike! On the box it had "houghton lake, MI" and some initials and a last name. A little bit of time online in the whitepages and I found a phone number. Left a message and the guy's wife just called me back now! Going to talk to him tonight when he gets home. This is amazing, I can't wait to find out more information about this bike!

I got to spend over an hour last night on the phone with the original owner, that was just too cool! He's a really nice guy! Told me some awesome stories of riding the bike and his trips that are mapped out on the box he made (see photos in earlier post of box). Bought this bike brand new when he was in his late 20's and sold it in the 1980s sometime. He was an art teacher and used to take part of his summers off each year to do cross country riding before it was really popular. I offered to give him the box back, felt that was the right thing to do, but he said his wife wouldn't be happy with any more "stuff" around their house, haha. But, He would really love to see some pictures of it when I'm finally done. Shoot, I cant wait to see photos with I'm done!!! Anyways, I spent a few hours today taking care of little things on the bike and did a final spit shine on the pipes before getting ready to put them on. Check it out!  Not bad for an all original set of HM300's from 1971! Ohhhhh Ahhhhh . . . ;)
