Trust me, I'd love to keep this bike when I'm done! It's going to be amazing! I've just decided to give it a break for a few years, if you lived in Detroit you'd understand, the traffic is just not fun to deal with on a 40+ year old bike! I did it last summer on my red K1 that I've been riding for 5 years now but only did maybe 1,000 miles last season. Idiot drivers, crazy traffic and my air-cooled, single disk brake Honda don't mix well!
Basically I've decided to sell the bikes to get back into a classic car. I grew up here in Detroit and I guess since moving back the muscle car bug has bit me again! In highschool I had a '69 GTO convertible for my first car and that was just fun to ride around and go to shows with. I'm thinking I will get much more fun out of a toy car than my bikes for now and as much as I'd like to have both, well . . . as my friend Tim says, we can't all be Jay Lenno, can't keep everything!
My red bike will be going on the auction block in a couple weeks. I have to detail her and swap out the non-correct '74 rear fender I've been riding with for a correct '71 fender I just picked up. I'm also trying to send her off right with a fresh paint job on the tank and sidecovers since my old paint job had some stone chips and scratches. Already sprayed them, just have to wet sand the tank, put on the decals, and clear over it all. So like I said, couple weeks and she'll be tip-top ready for someone else to enjoy!
It does make me a little sad though, I'm the second owner of my red K1 and I've personally put over 20,000 miles on her in the past 4 years while restoring her. Anyone interested?
I'll post some photos soon of my red bike on here too. Theres one in the "CB750 registry" page of her but I'll get some recent ones. Also, stay updated . . .I'm just a few boxes in the mail away from having my gold K1 finished! Exciting eh?
