Do i Need to Rubber Mount
« on: April 22, 2009, 01:13:48 PM »
Just bought a combined regulator/rectifier from David Silver, and it will be mounted under my seat. My question to you is do i need to rubber mount it???? Or shall i just bolt it down to my home made alloy electric tray????

Many thanks

Is the body grounded? If not you won't need any rubbers.

Honda "rubber mounted" the voltage regulator because shaking the dickens out of a mechanical device like a relay is bad.  The solid state stuff (I assume the David Silver unit is solid state) would be less susceptible to problems like that.  The other issue you need to worry about is whether it's counting on a ground where it mounts.

It looks to me like it's pretty much a drop in and NEEDS to be grounded since it only has 2 wires besides the rectifier connector.  The factory regulator needs 3 wires, one of which is ground.  In other words, if you isolate with rubber mounting, be sure to ground the case.

maybe rubber mount it anyways and run a very short ground wire? Electronics dont much care to be shaken anyways as the solder joints are pretty small and may be fragile.

Just a thought.
