I'm into it a couple of hours and am stuck with a small obstacle: disconnecting the top of the fork gators from the headlight ears. There's no clamp or anything external to give a clue.

And an over all shot. The top triple clamp has been removed, the fork leg clamps on the bottom triple clamp are loosened but the legs don't want to slip down.

Success. Old bearings and races are out, new bearings and races installed, triple clamps back on. I'll finish the rest of the reassembly tomorrow along with some cleaning, and buffing of the fork lowers.

I found this site to be very helpful: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=1516.msg291278#msg291278

The silly thing was, a previous owner already had tapered bearings installed, but I went ahead and swapped them out anyway, since I had done all the work to prepare.

The freezing of parts (lower triple clamp and lower bearing race) and heating the lower bearing on a hot socket, worked out well.

I love this sohc site!

Rather than disconnect all the wiring, I tied it up, lifted out of the way.

The K5 is back together again!

I still need a chain master link rivet tool. The chain I bought is o-ring and a clip style master link wont work, because the pins aren't long enough. I'd be willing to pay $20 or some beers to borrow this tool instead of buying one for one use. The 2 other bikes are shaft drive.

I noticed that my swing arm bushings need redoing.  :(

BMW? Sure.

So I bite the bullet and bought the chain tool, after I found an old gift card for the Honda dealer. Willing to rent it out.

Piece of crap tool, made by DRC. The tool's pin bent while dimpling the chain's pin.
