Hi Peter,I have read of many different guys on this forum doing exactly what you are asking about. They have varied the PVC length from 1/2 inch to as much as 2 inches, depending on the springs they had installed and what it was they were trying to accomplish. Seems to work fine for them.
I have never had the need to do this. Once, I was tempted to do it, but, a neat set of springs came my way really cheap........ in good shape...... courtesy of a massive salvage yard near me.
You could check your oil level in the forks....... or simply drain and refill......... a really low amount of oil or old sludge crud could make the tubes stick in a compressed state (actually, if you drain the oil and there is a lot of thick crud in there, flush and clean the forks real good before you put new oil in)........ Just a thought?
I hope this helps you....
