engine # ?
« on: October 30, 2005, 11:08:02 PM »
I just got my first bike, complete newbie to motorcycles.  The bike was sold to me as a 1971 Honda CB 750 and came with an extra engine in peices.  I bought the bike as a chopper/bobber project but I like the bike too much as is so I've decided to restore it.  The engine in the bike is stamped CB750E-0813820 and the extra engine CB750E-2460504.  Dumb question maybe but I can't come up with the K series by these #s on this list.   Does this mean the engines are K6 and K8?  I thought the 1971 was a K1 series?

I need to get a title online and I don't know what year to call it.  What else do I look for?

Here's a couple links to pics of the bike.  Can you tell if it is a 71?

I thought bikes were titled by the frame numbers on the headstock? Those are the VIN numbers.

According to the Honda Motorcycle Identification Guide:

CB750E-2460504 = is a 1976 year engine. K6

CB750E-0813820 is not referenced by my book.  None of the CB750 Engine serial numbers begin with zero after the dash in the book.

Oops, 2813820

Oh, I didn't know the frame# and VIN where the same thing. :P    I don't know where the seller got 1971 from.
like I said I'm just starting out.  The VIN starts 23xxxxx, the engine must be newer.

thanks

Looks like your frame is a 1974 model (K4).

The 2813820 engine, if those are the correct numbers, fall outside of anything Honda has published.
If it is actually 2313820, then it is a 1974 K4 as well.

yeah, for title porposes on the bikes go by the year on the VIN plate. Allot of them also state the year right on the VIN plate ("Model year 197x").
