« on: April 21, 2009, 09:40:21 PM »
Does anyone have or know where i can purchase a new belt for a A.R.D. CDI MAGNETO?
I checked the archives and tried the phone # for A.R.D ENGINEERING But it is no good.
Hey TERRY or big JAY, Got any sources or part #'s for the belt ? Also i heard the cap

Jon, the belt is a standard product currently available; I'll just have to check my records to get the link unless someone else posts it first.

I'm uncertain if the cap is used by a different application. You might try a search for the company who currently provides parts for the magnetos.

It's too late in the day and I'm too busy for the next couple of days for me to search. I'll try to post again in a couple days. Maybe someone else can help you first. RR

you can get them from mcmaster carr.  The pulley adapter system on the ARD is not a standard part for www.magnetoparts.com.  You can easily find it on Mcmaster though.  I think its 4-5 bucks.

Hell I've replaced everything in mine save for the cases.  Pretty much everything is available.

mine is the CDI unit, the last model i guess. It only has 1500 miles on it. I put it on
back in 1981 ! I just want to get some extra parts while they are available.

can someone confirm for me that the actual magneto unit is the same for a VW bug? I was told this a while ago and always believed it without much thought. I have a second ARD setup missing the mag and I would like to know If I could get one.

If yours has points it's an early one. Mine has no points. It has a cdi (capacitator discharge
ignition) do a search on ard magneto here. i know i saw some pictures of some.

Gotcha, Mine has the single arm points setup in it.  I know ARD made a mag that was boomerang shaped too.  I think that was the later one with the Cap in the lower end of the adapter plate.  Pretty cool stuff.

Even though I spent all this time rebuilding mine to the point where it will shock the life outta you with just a finger twist, I might end up just running Ken's ignition system.  Something about running a mag bike coast to coast seems like im asking for trouble hahaha.  Well see though.

A friend of mine might follow us in his car.  Im going to put an extra engine in there just in case. haha.  You never know what' you're going to need.

My Dad's old buddy had a beetle with a dying engine so he carried a spare around with him in the back seat.  One day on the way back from somewhere it finally gave out.  He swapped engines and left the busted one on the side of the road.  I would have loved to have driven past this sight!

I was told by Mallory that the RC / Mallory Sprint mags are reverse rotation VW mags. Don't know about the ARDs
