Choke Linkage Distances/Carbs
« on: June 16, 2009, 07:42:45 PM »
I didn't think to measure the distances between the choke linkages when I took my carbs apart this afternoon... Now that they are all back together, I'm scratching my head trying to figure it out.  7.5cm on center is my approx. starting point... Any ideas?  The manual didn't mention anything about distances and I didn't even think to mark them before I unscrewed them.

Trial and error, trial and error, trial and error...

what bike? I'd think you could just close all the chokes completely and then adjust the linkages to fit the levers. They should all be fully closed/open at the same time.

Ah yes, the bike... a '74 750.  I was right about the 7.5cm between the 1+2 and the 3+4... 2+3 was 8cm... I didn't take into account the different offset there.  And through a mildly amusing round of trial and error I managed to figure out what I think is the right configuration.  The problem lie in having to set them each time I tinkered by putting the set plate in place so that they were properly aligned.  Measuring, checking adjusting, etc.  I will usually find the longest route to the solution and at the end.  I'm now going to reward my efforts by reorganizing my wrench set.  This was a satisfying day.

And thanks to you know who... with enough soak and spray they finally came loose.
