used bikes = hidden curses

This is just a sort of scarry heads up. Guys I went and got new tires put on my bike this week. Not a bad price really. It came out to just under $100 per tire complete for Bridgestone Tour Sports. The guy cut me a killer price on the tires as I cut him in on a Mach III and traded for his cb750.

When we did the whole tire mounting dance we found an otherwise good front rim to be rusted fairly heavily inside, this thing looked really good outside. Because of its condition it  should be replaced in the spring. The rear was a little better but had four busted spokes (I have plans to re-lace this rim in the spring). The scarry part was that the tube in the rear tire was twisted and eating itself for lack of better terms. It was messed up on about 10 spots :o, (talking about riding on borrowed time). Plus someone had used duc-tape for the rim liner :o!

Before the tire change I had put on about 200 miles, about 50 of then hard, and many of them well over 70MPH!

I guess we should look closely at what we ride on when it is a "new" to us bike.

Buffo, I disagree with you. It's true what you say, but it happens many times that people buy things on a whim, esp. motorcycles, and they sell them when they are short of money or because they are forced by their families. Well, it can easily happen with old bikes that they have had several previous owners and one never knows what's inside, but I'm of the opinion that, when somebody is careful with his vehicle on the outside -nice paint, clean parts, no dings or scratches etc- it means usually that the vehicle has been gently used and timely maintained.
