Broken Snap ring in right front wheel bearing groove
« on: October 26, 2005, 09:12:01 PM »
I broke a snap ring that is on top of the front wheel bearing on the
right side.

Half of a snap ring (without the holes) is stuck in the groove. The other half
broke off when I was trying to remove the ring with snap ring pliers. Two pieces
broke (the ends with holes) and now I can't get the rest out of the groove.

This is from a Kawasaki, but I figured I you might have had a similar experience.

Help.  :(

I run into this type of situation every now and then while working on machinery.  You need to get yourself some pointed 90-degree picks, no larger than 1/8" diameter.  Work one pointed pick under one end of the broken ring while holding the ring still in the groove with the other pick.  Gently work one end out of the groove, continuing around until you can get a grip on it with some pliers.  Be careful not to stab yourself!  Regards,
