siezed motor plan of action
« on: July 27, 2009, 09:31:36 PM »
I have a locked up 400F motor I am hoping to salvage the bottom end out of for a 350F project in the (very) early stages.  Tomorrow, off comes the valve cover.  I had amazing luck once with a motor that locked up in such a way that I could see both cam sprocket bolts.  I don't expect such good fortune this time.  The plan is to rotary tool a link out of the chain (or do you think I should just try for a rivet?) and get the top end apart.  Then a 350F top end perhaps will get put on it.  I went looking for a M18-1.5 bolt to remove the rotor but no such luck here.  I hope to find a chain link to salvage the cam chain...

If the motor is seized, tear it totally down and rebuild it.  this means new cam chain, and new bearings all over.  seized usually means either sitting and pistons rusted in cylinders, or bearing spun and something is fubar.
These bikes dont die, they hibernate until the right person wakes them up again.

I am interested in your project.  Can you document it in the build section?
