CR750 Street Bike Build Update
« on: April 25, 2009, 04:27:09 pm »
Well, things are moving along really well, today mounted the exhaust and took care of several little items.  Here it is waiting for the aluminum CR750 tank painted, and front fender and rear tail section.  The motor is a full rebuild with a 850 Cycle X Git Kit inside, GL1000 front end with drilled rotors and 3.50x18 aluminum rear rim with a 140 tire.  Full Dyna S system and coils, Progressive suspension, aluminum clip ons and rearsets.  Color will be the Honda blue/green candy color.

Going to be a "street rider/bike night" machine so it has turn signals and a tail light/stop light/horn etc......  I custom made an aluminum bracket to crunch the instruments together and down as far as possible.  I used the stock pipes cut down and rewelded with the endcaps inverted to make them look like meggas.  Should run good with that motor and suspension.

Thought I would post an update .... started with a rusty old 1978 CB750K in November.

That's going great Mike, congrats on your good progress, I can't wait to see the candy blue/green bodywork on there, everyone likes to paint them red, there used to be a candy blue/green one on Vic World's site, but it was a naked bike still looked great.  Will you have any fairings on this one?

Thanks .... this exhaust looks better than my last build .... learn from past mistakes!

Alan, no this wll be another naked ..... much easier to run on the street that way as well and I happen to like seeing the "works" .... most of my regular modern bikes have all been naked bikes as well!  here is my "newer 1995" Honda ....

By git kit do you mean the kit with the rods, pistons, cam and so on? If so how are the quality of the rods? I've been tossing around the idea of going this route for my rebuild.

Great progress!

Everything looked good, we did not use the studs because my engine builder didn't want to risk messing with stock ones on a low mileage motor, and has not personally had any issues with stock on hot motors. We have installed all of the other components and the parts look like nice quality ..... my builder recommended the 850 kit to me over the 836, and has used Cycle X parts before.

Looking forward to the first ignition in a week or so ..... ;)

Where does one get an aluminum CR750 tank? I've seen the fiberglass ones on Air-Tech, but I like the idea of an aluminum much better! Are they available through someone?

Thanks.

Did you detail what you did to that stock exhaust anywhere?  Looks really great.

BTW, if you wanna unload those CycleX HD cylinder studs lemme know.  I could use a set.

I like it so far, quite nice. The tank is sweet.

Probably the easiest thing to do is go to meadspeed in the UK .... they are a distributor of Bartell's that build the tank in Ireland ..... make sure you are sitting down when you get the quote, however it helped that the dollar is better vs the Euro lately.

OK, got the paint back tonight ..... looks pretty good ... seems to have the tint we were looking for, although greener in person out of the sun, kind of a unique cool color - Honda Candy Blue Green.  Now I need to stripe and get the seat made and we will be getting close!  the white Daytona style stripes should jump off this paint color ....
