that thing looks AWESOME i cant wait to togo town on some high speed and hear that thing you guys got me all excited...

BTW what tripple tree top is that...
what tires are those..
what rear tire size is that

i know the front end is a GL... but the rest eludes me.....

I want some details!

I appreciate that a lot but do you think it's ready yet? I might be cutting my chances with the bike still raw .... what do you think?

I still need to decal, make & install the seat, mount the chin pad and finish the carb tuning with the pods installed and mount the bar end mirrors etc ..... still a ways to go. Should look great with all of the details done but still kinda raw looking right now ...

Thanks ... the pipe do sound nice ... throaty with a snap to them ...
BTW what tripple tree top is that - just stock and I cut down the barmounts and fill.what tires are those - the Kenda's with tubes to work with the spoked aluminum rim's.what rear tire size is that - I used a 140 on a 3.5" wide 18 aluminum rim ... DID brand stainless spoked to the stock hub.
Stock pipes cut down, inverse ends welded back on and trimmed down ... nice fit and beefy construction ... too heavy for a race bike.

you said it was a stock tripple tree... was it a Gl1000 front end or a F2/3 ??

Can you please provide a little detail on what you did regarding the instrument lights.
I too want to ditch the standard config and minimise the look.

I've looked into a few options, but yours seems neat and basic (the look I am going for)

It's just a standard DID 18" x 3.5" aluminum rear rim and the front is the one that comes on the GL1000 ...... I have had best luck with the 1975-1977 GL1000 models .... seem to fit perfectly on the CB750 frame. This is my second one with this setup ....... fixes a lot of issues: aluminum spoked rim, dual disc's, 37 mm beefier forks, tapered steering head bearings, etc ......

You know it was just something I ground out of a piece of aluminum plate .... I was sitting there thinking how can I lower and snug the two instruments together more? so I traced out a pattern and kept trimming it until I had the right shape .... I also drilled three holes for mini-lamps - red for oil pressure warning, green for neutral and yellow for turn signals. I wanted to retain some idiot lights for street functionality but wanted them to be almost invisible. Lastly I painted the ignition switch base satin black to match so it would disappear into the top triple.

One thing I wished I did better on my last CR build was the instruments mounting .... I used the CB750 plate and it made the tach and speedo stick up in the air ..... so that was my motovation.

so what does the GL1000 front end exactly fix.. you said it gives you more rake?

the reason i ask is because my 750 seems "fixed" with stock stuff... and some mods done to them...

I'm not sure about the rake? I did not worry about that ... "issues" was probably a bad term to use ... what I really meant was easy solutions to getting a dual brake setup and alumium rim for the right look and performance

The All Balls tapered steering bearing kit is all you need to mount the full GL front end, it comes with the races for the neck. I also drilled and tapped the lower triple for stops to keep those low clip-ons from hitting the tank.

I am doing a very similar 'mini-me' version in the 550.
I'm a bit behind-powdercoated frame back, wheels from Buchanans back and bodywork painted.
Not to hijack, your bike is gorgeous!

Where did you pick up the "mini-lamps" from? Are they 6 or 12v?

Thanks everyone .... let's see, the rearsets are the common Raask from Omar's, the mini lamps I use are just Radio Shack 12v's with rubber grommets to shock mount them, and some of the best chin pad material is Hydroturf used for jetski footwell mats, very dense closed cell foam and good UV resistance and what I used on the red bike.

I'ts a fresh motor with cold oil, I expect it will be high then drop after warm up and break in. What's the spec when the oil is hot and motor broken in?

my bike starts at about 60psi from cold start, after warm up and steady idling around 1200-1500rpm it drops to around 30 psi.
3k and over it runs 40 and up to 60-65psi nearing the redline

yeah I'm like 40psi at idle, your bike looked to be 80+ at idle but I couldn't see for sure.

Of course, yours is a 78 and mine is a '76 so there could be differences in the top end oiling, I don't know.
